so i was gonna make some kind of comment about if you're not sure what you're doing you only have to sift through 297 shows, and if you're kinda good maybe narrow it down to 150 shows and a seasoned person might narrow it to what, 20-30 shows?. but then just by educated chance i hit it on the first try so i won't say anything.
should i post my answer here?

ps. i like when you post it then says " posted 0 minutes hence." classy

I had the same experience this morning! I don't think I've ever found the song on my first listen but today I did. A good educated estimation usually gets you in the neighborhood but a one timer was a treat haha. Nothing left to do but smile smile smile now....

Might there be a chance we’ve heard this same sweet song again on past Days?
Jerry sure sings this tune so sweet.
Don't cry now, but we’re already 8 Days in.
Happy Birthday David! Double nickels..

One of the most blatant and obvious hints mine eyes have seen on the 30 days...usually they are not hints at all. "This song was played off and on" or "Sometimes first set, sometimes second set this song was played by the band throughout their career." Today basically gave it to you on a silver platter.

Was starting to feel overwhelmed by the Bird Songs...but then something clicked and I could start to tell I was drifting further away from the answer. Went back for a second pass through and kept revisiting the download. What got it for me was a combination of the way it starts up, the keyboard fills (which on some recordings are loud and full and pop right out of the music; here they're a little more subdued in the mix); and the ending drum rolls and closing note hit.

From yesterday -- Phil's bass is so clear and loud in the mix. Love that bass line as the Alligator vocals are ending and the jam/drums are about to begin.

Narrowed down the era based on Brent’s keyboard. Then found the vocal flub in the 2nd verse and searched and found based on that

Saying there is a Jerry vocal flub is really not a hint (although maybe you shouldn’t tell exactly where the words he sings/flubs are)- I’ve found every Jerry tune that way, but DON’T DISCUSS THE KEYBOARD PLAYER BY NAME. Right or wrong… it’s just too much. You should erase that post…

whoopee!! I narrowed it down to an 11 year period. Not like I said it was his keyboard from a specific era or even gave a specific year/date like so many do. Or even gave a wink-wink clue about the venue or date. Just telling how I got it.

30DOD is flying along like a bird singing. I’ve been really enjoying listening to the birds on my property, especially this last migration wow.

Happy Birthday Dave!

Dave & Co. really are in tune, doing some incredible work. Yesterday for example, another nugget from Family Dog! Uncirculated Casey Jones last year, UJB dropped in ‘07. The vault is deep deep deep!

Why are you dropping dates in the comments? Read the room and get a clue...

I finally got it. I had mistakenly ruled it out early and listened to about 100 Bird Songs before returning and realizing it was it.

I download the 30 DoD logo to use as a CD cover for the tunes. This year's 30 DoD logo appears to have smudges on it. Is there a cleaner version that can be downloaded or can this one be replaced with a cleaner version?

@Otto Pylot...in my estimation, that is the artwork. Those are not smudges. That's how it was created. Enjoy!

The hints usually mean nothing to me but this one ... like Brassinthegrass or rather Gregory and maybe Hornsby I got it on my first try today which will give me time to listen to the entire show. I love it when that happens.

because about 15 minutes after placing my guess I started bumming out that i didn't have to sift through a bunch of shows and listen to and stumble across a bunch of stuff. Hard to really enjoy the ride when you don't even leave the driveway.

Interesting that, in the hundreds of times Bird Song was played, (and hundreds for other songs in the set) it seems that this concert was only one of three times that it was played in between two of those rollicking standards.
BTW, Please folks, think a bit before posting your comments - no more of posting dates or obvious references to what you think the answer is; don't spoil the fun for the rest of us.
And for all, listen to that bird inside of you, and may it fly forever.

according to Drummer. But as per usual Drummer was right on time. The strange thing is I couldn't find that little bit of banter on any of the recordings I referenced. Yet I know I landed on the correct show. Must be another source out there somewhere. To search or not to search, that is the question.

One of those rare hole in one shots. Seemed like a good place to check first and there it was. First try and so glad this show was chosen for today. I say it so many times, but it is true, this run had made for some beautiful cassette tapes. Real thick and rich headphone friendly mixes. Spent some good hours listening to these shows. Enjoy!

Chicago, IL, Uptown Theatre
After a seven year hiatus from the repertoire, Bird Song returned for the acoustic sets in 1980, and shortly after, was played electrically again at the end of November 1980, after which it remained in the setlist for the next 15 years, offering a huge jam vehicle to many first sets
