Kinda speechless to be honest, the last 44 min took me on a ride of joy, ecstasy, introspection, lament, sorrow, understanding and peace. Thinking of past experiences within my life, knowing I have been blessed in so many ways and somehow still questioning choices. There is always today and there is still time for more adventure and discovery. I AM

What a sequence! It doesn't get much better than this, I'd say. Very nice of Dave to bookend days 11 through 20 with a "Stella Blue" - whether or not that was intentional, I don't know! Anyhow, what a great tape. You can't go wrong with "Dark Star" or "Eyes," really. You spoil us, Dave!

That is also a fantastic Stella Blue. Damn that is nice. Garcia's vocals are like he's at the front of the stage in a small club and you have seats next to the stage. Bobby plays some cool stuff too.

That this Eyes is only rated the 86th best on headyversion but it is spectacular.

I got locked out of account for a week or so, could not reset password, then finally could (phew). When I saw "Dark Star" I first thought "yay" then thought "uh oh, this will be tough", but given the combo and timings, got it on 1st try. Assuming I'm correct (which I am), that's ten straight after sluggish start where I had insufficient search time (and I retired this year, go figure). Thirteen of 20 so far, won't break my 2023 PR of 27. There's always next year (at least we hope so!!). Should be nine hours or more of music again this year, how sweet it is!

Of jazzy funky Dead.
Way easier than I thought.
What's with that transition?
Cheers

The transition from Dark Star to Eyes isn't smooth, looking forward to learning which show this came from to hear full version. Always enjoy this time of year, thanks so much for continuing to do this!

I could listen to the first minute over and over again just for cymbal work by young god BK.

That is some of the finest and kindest Dave has ever offered up. The sound is crystal clear throughout, particularly during Stella Blue. It's like Jerry was singing softly and directly into my ears with the band right there beside him here in the room where I sit. Thank you!

Echoing Moodcode (and others) - what a beautiful 30 Days selection

Shout out to some really very fine spacey gorgeous keyboards in this fantastic show.

As for the transition - I think its a tape gremlin but possibly a reel change. There's an audience source that covers the transition and while I haven't timed it, a quick run through earlier and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot missing like some reel changes. Really hoping that there were at least 2 R to R rigs running for this show.

Wake up to find out that David offers up another wonderful trio, albeit an easy find.
In the end, there's just three awesome songs.
Always loved it when Jerry would dust off those rusty strings.
Sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs that are mind blown.
Happy Day 20 all!

I read a show review for this show, and the author noted a very odd abrupt stop after Dark Star. Even with the hiccup in the flow I love the occasional ‘tape’ sound.

Whatever went down with the transition(s), it's just magical how the band could go from that anguished craziness at the end of Dark Star into a laid out Eyes, then an intimate, crooning Stella Blue. Bending those rusty strings, massaging the cymbals, some tasteful keys - plus Phil's amazingly powerful and clean bass - this is what brought us all along for the ride. Maybe "there's nothing you can hold for very long", but thanks to the band and Dave we have this amazing music for the rest of our days. Just magical - thank you!!

What a jam. Hadn't stumbled upon this show before for some reason, but it's in the rotation now. This band is truly, the gift that keeps on giving... incredible really.

What a beautiful sequence! I was happy to listen a couple times today on a nice long walk.

I've been enjoying the searches with all of you this year. Got my pick in early tonight as I've been falling asleep the last few nights and either waking up just after midnight (doh!) or a few minutes before (woohoo!), but who needs that stress?

Let's have a great Friday pick and send everyone into that weekend right. Thank you all!

By mid-1973, Dark Star had been in the repertoire for more than five years and was the centerpiece of some of the Dead's most famous shows over that time, not to mention the definitive version on Live/Dead. Eyes Of The World and Stella Blue would both be recorded for Wake Of The Flood in August 1973 for that album's October release
