Wow! That huge spiral spinning in rain and snow from San Francisco to Anchorage looks awesome on the radar. The zone of 8-10" of rains runs right up the coast. Hope everybody out there stays dry and warm!

hybrid Sandy a sign of things to come?
Well, we made it... sort of -- 100s of thousands without power, billions in damage, my favorite beach in RI wrecked (thanks for the images Weather Channel!). This was razor close to the perfect storm. A Lunar high tide combining with the onshore winds combined with a straight-line storm with barometric pressure at 940 millibars (a record) pushed a record 13 foot tidal surge into into Battery Park,Manhattan with subways flooding out. It could have been worse. With 22 foot waves crashing on the lake shore in Chicago and Cleveland I don't know how much more it could have been worse!. This thing is still a pain in the ass with people buried under 26 inches of snow and no power in WV and the storm spreading from Chicago to SC still today with 30-50mph winds. I think this is a hybrid model that will repeat, not necessarily with the hurricane component unless it is the season, because of global warming. If anything, this has shown me how helpless we are in the face of nature's global warming wallop. This was in an in-your-face-warning.

This is the largest hurricane in history (900 miles) and will flood the NY subway, shred the Atlantic City boardwalk and send storm surges 6-11 feet in the NY-Long Island-CT area. The NYSE is closed, possibly for the week. Hope the power stays on! Stay safe!

We took a trip up to Burke Mtn. and Northern Vermont and the foliage was brilliant and electric. The show Mother Nature puts on these few weeks each year never fails to give me pause to think of beauty. -- All the more this year as they have just announced the tearing down of paradise and putting up of a parking lot. Well, the humidity is rising and the barometer's is getting low. According to all of the sources, the street looks the best place to go.Because, i believe, tonight, for the very first time, probably around half past ten, and for the first time in history, it's gonna start raining men. Hallelujah.

Huh? What does that mean, Slo? You work in a green house? Jeezum' crow. I walk outside my AC and my gut turns to liquid. I can't imagine toiling in 115 degree heat! I do remember working on a roof one summer in Furnace, Kentucky and even with a headband on there was a continuous stream of sweat rolling into my eyes! Feels more like 92 million lately. I work every day in greenhouses in the upper midwest where we have had 30+ days above 90 and 4 above 100; hottest summer on record so far and still going strong. the greenhouses we work in all day run easily 15 deg. above the ambient temps. when that fat old sun is a shinin' and if the wind ain't blowin, there's no air moving in them at all. i'm not whining (yet) as i get to enjoy the wonderful benefits of piped lightning when i get home. Somebody much smarter than me figured out how to distrubute it long ago and i get to reap the benefits (as long as i continue to pay for it is my understanding). I'm lucky to have ac and have used it liberally this summer. My father was born and raised on a farm in the midwest where he lived until the age of 8 before the family moved in to town and a house with modern (1946) amenities. Up until he was 8..... NO electricity, no indoor plumbing, etc.,folks, that means not even so much as a fan to blow the hot air around! I ask dad every year how in the hell they did it and he always says,"you got used to it whether you liked it or not and a tub full of cool well water did wonders". compared to that, i've got it pretty damn good. Those thin little lines hanging on those skinny wooden poles are the only things seperating us from "days of yore" ladies and gentlemen. Homeland security? my ass.

Southern California has the best weather! It only got up to about 72 today on the coast. My mom and stepfather are staying with me for the week, and they thought it was a little chillier th than they'd been expecting, but I think it's just perfect.

When I left Andalucia for the weekend, was sunny and close to 30 degrees (80 something for you farenheit guys) Was warm enough to get a wee bit of color in my face when outside. Here in southern Germany is crisp and cool, shocking enough to have given me a lovely cold.********************************* Don't part with your illusions. Go f*#K yourself, San Diego! OK, I love this line 'cause I'm sick of hearing how f'ing great your weather is out there. ENOUGH ALREADY! DO YOU WANT MY HEAD TO EXPLODE? Just kidding, Izz. Over "here" we've had a summer of drought, heat and humidity (you do know it's not the heat, blah, blah, blah) and now it should be time for the greatest event of the year, autumn but the drought will be sure to abate our fun, in that regard. Sorry if I seem a bit bleak but here's how I see the weather report today (sorry this may be the wrong thread): You want a prediction about the weather, you're asking the wrong Phil. I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life. Of course that's just how I feel today. On other daze, I feel more like this (so don't worry, 'cause it's actually very beautiful here, crisp temps and vivid skies, with Halloween nipping the Autumn air with fanged teeth. No leaf color to speak of, as yet): Winter, slumbering in the open air, wears on its smiling face a dream... of spring (with a box of Keenex on the night stand). Ciao. The Dude Abides!

Yeah, we have 'em here in north Texas - you step outside and report what the weather is like. Weather forecasting? We don't bother, nobody knows. I believe it was Mark Twain who said - "Everyone complains about the weather but nobody does anything about it."

When a blind man takes your hand and says; Don't you see - you have the most beautiful face; Don't you see - we're floating in space; Don't you see - happiness makes you cry; Don't you see - everyone you know someday will die. Life goes fast; It's hard to make the good things last; The sun doesn't "go down"; It's just an illusion caused by the world spining 'round. It's apparently music fusion time for me. I'm down here visiting family in Laguna Niguel till tomorrow, and while there are no fires in the immmediate area, there are at least 10 significant fires in SoCal, and the air is so thick with smoke you can barely see the houses across the street, forget the ocean. I can only imagine what it's like in the actual fire area. My brother's a volunteer firefighter in Fallbrook, and consqeuently couldn't come to our family gathering yesterday.

Here in Eastern Washington the skies are grey and the temperature is in the 40's and it feels damp. The hardwoods leaves are falling and some of the trees are getting bare and others are quite colorful. The rains have come and fire season here is over until next July or August. Always a bit of relief with that. I know what you are going through in So. Cal. with the fires. A big part of our lives here. Sorry about the lives affected by the fires. Here in Erie, PA we had a very nice day, warm and dry. Just took my son for a walk in the stroller, I think he enjoyed it. Tonight the weather should turn more fall like accordinding to the forecasters. Rainy and much cooler for the rest of the week.

What Steve-O said goes for me, as well, in regards to those terrible fires. I'm praying for any relief possible for you guys. The news can't do the situation justice, I'm sure, and yet the images and scope presented on TV and internet are terrifying to everyone here on the other coast. Everyone I know is concerned and pulling for the situation to turn for the positive. The Dude Abides!

Thanks for that update, CCJoe! (GRTUD's hands tremble as he opens a Xanax bottle and liberally pours them into the funnel he now hold's in his mouth). In a garbled voice GRTUD continues, "Ah, Dante's Hell...", as he chews, swallows the pills and his eyes glaze over. Thank you Walter, that makes me feel very secure, it makes me feel very warm inside.

Temps in the 50,s, got a ton of rain yesterday, brought the creeks way up. There will be lots of Steelhead in the creeks, but I'll have to let the water levels drop to be fishable. Probably will be fishin tomorrow!!!!
