This was the first time i saw the GOGD in the flesh. Not sure now how much of my memory of the show is from tapes or being there. I do remember however Mungo Jerry were amazing, so my memory of the Dead is also at least partialy correct Bob W Spanish Jam

I was their and remember waking up in a large marquee surrounded by water. Great weekend but the promised return of Grateful Dead for a bit more later never happened because of the popularity of Mungo Jerry. What a shame. Mungo Jerry even played in 2005 at my local pub in East London. I also went to The Lyceum gig but it couldn't have been the next day?

This show circulates both as an audience (complete) and soundboard (portions are missing). I prefer the audience recording. If the entire soundboard can be found, this might make a nice vault release.

I loved the show but spoke to Weir afterwards and he said "next time we'll play well for you". The first of many for me, culminating in Nassau and MSG this April, a long strange trip indeed.

Newcastle is not mentioned in the Domesday Book, as it grew up approximately the 12th century castle, but it should untimely have become a place of meaning Like neighbouring Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle's early wealth was based about hatting trade, silk and strand mills. The city is part of a world-wide network of towns and cities with the name Newcastle. http://www.linkedin.com/company/655453
