    my first show
this was my first show, and to this day is one of the most transcendent, memorable times of my life. I can't watch excerpts from the show without getting all teary eyed. It was so powerful. As a piano player, the sounds coming out of the B3 during Dear Mr. Fantasy was almost religious. I can't say enough about the people I met and the time I had that night.

I write this with tears in my eyes
why does everyone get wood over this run? I find it good, but not visionary. The Sugar Magnolia > Scarlet transition is great, indeed. I want to understand! Please enlighten me!

It was indeed the first day of rain...
My friends who attended all three shows told us all about how the first days weather was picture perfect and the third night was like a monsoon. This middle night was an on and off drizzle as far as I remember. We were on the lawn up front. I remember being glad that I had a dry set of cloths for the 6 hour drive home afterwards. We were gluttons for punishment back then, but the show was well worth it. Looking forward to the theatrical showing!

I originally had no plans to attend Alpine Valley in '89 until someone I knew had 2 tickets available for this night only and the morning before the show who was unable to attend, I talked my buddy into taking a half day off work and we immediately got on the road from Grand Rapids, MI. With approximately a 6 hour drive, we got on the road and arrived at the venue a couple hours before showtime. I remember that it rained the whole time. Having skipped Alpine 88 and having so much fun in 86 and 87, I wasn't prepared for how they lot had been totally fenced in and the enormous oversold crowd. Despite the rain, vending was in full force as were the anti-vendors who were busting people with shirts, veggie burritos ect ect. I knew that they had cool bright new stage backdrops from the Shoreline Summer Solstace Pay-Per-View but was suprised that they added video screens to Alpine. Musically the show was a winner from start to finish. Perhaps someday the video from this night will surface.

This was my "birth show," and I remember sliding down the "mud-slide" with a trash bag on! I was only 10 years old, but I've been a deadhead ever since this show, and I always will be.

my favorite part about this show, no new material!! This seemed like the first show in ages where there was no new material played. That made it a solid show for me.

Oh yes, I remember it rained the whole time, I also drove back and forth from Chicago each day, because those shows were in the middle of the week and I had to work. But it was so worth it. Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

I can't remember but wasn't this the first day of rain? The show the day before was clear and I remember us driving in early before the shows started to a full moon. I think I'm going to go watch the film here in L.A. :)
