Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1974, 1978 and 1987.

Our first selection this week is from 5/12/74 in Reno, the first show of the Wall Of Sound touring era. The WoS had debuted on 3/23/74 at the hometown Cow Palace show, and they hit the road for four mini-tours (May, June, July-August, and Europe) before wrapping up the era with the five shows at Winterland in October. From Reno, we have the big jam of Truckin'>Nobody's Jam>The Other One>Mind Left Body Jam>Row Jimmy.

Next up is the entire first set of a very good show from 6/4/78 at UCSB Stadum in Santa Barbara, featuring Bertha> Good Lovin' ; Dire Wolf; Me And My Uncle> Big River ; Brown Eyed Women ; Looks Like Rain ; Tennessee Jed ; Jack Straw. The Dead only played two shows in June, 1978, this one and another stadium gig in Eugene, OR, three weeks later.

Lastly this week, from just south of Santa Barbara at the Ventura County Fairgrounds on 6/12/87, we have the start of the second set featuring China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider, Far From Me, Man Smart (Woman Smarter)>He's Gone, including a rare second set Far From Me.

Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.

That 1978. There is a raw, reckless, yet focused, jamming energy in this segment, 6/4/78. Jerry's passionate vocals and playing right from the start in Bertha just sets the hook. Great energetic Bertha! Thank you, Dave L!

to hear another Stayin' Alive quote. It's a warm-up into Me & My Uncle. That's funny.
