Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll check out music from 1972, 1980 and 1987.

Our first stop this week is in Springfield, MA, on 10/2/72, where we have a big batch of classic 1972 Grateful Dead music, featuring Promised Land, He's Gone, Me and Bobby McGee, China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider, Tomorrow Is Forever, Greatest Story Ever Told, Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo.

Next is music from 11/29/80 in Gainesville, FL, on a very short tour of Florida and Atlanta. A month after the monster runs of shows in San Francisco and New York, the Dead hit the road for four shows 11/26 to 11/30, each of which was really hot. From the end of the first set of the third show, we have Mama Tried>Mexicali Blues, Althea, Lost Sailor>Saint Of Circumstance>Don't Ease Me On, with a particularly hot quartet of songs from the pretty-new Go To Heaven album.

Lastly this week is the final music ever played by the Grateful Dead at Ventura County Fairgrounds, on 6/14/87: Truckin' > Wharf Rat > Throwing Stones > Not Fade Away Encore The Mighty Quinn (Quinn The Eskimo).

Hey Man, Digging the Deep South Dead for sure. Got to two of the four on that swing. Lakeland on the 28th , and this Gainsville show. Tix were about $7.50 U.S. Dollars for G.A. A good time was had by all... Merci beaucoup Monsieur Lemieux shwack in nh

Sorry man I was on vacation (I checked email once in 10 days - yeah, Dead.net was also an important check in). Good to know it's there... Listened to a decidedly 'train friendly show' from 10-2-77 (Casey Jones, Jack Straw opener with a Johnny B. Goode encore, not to mention a nice breakout of Dupree's) on the way back home aboard Amtrak. Funny, I'm coming back to that show now and again. Nice show. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it released someday... Re: the '87 - Great to see you're getting results from it Spacebro! Maybe I'll look for another '87 show to be released before this one though. There are better from '87 imo. Jerry still seems to be getting his sea legs about him on at least last week's '87 clip, especially Terrapin. Certainly good, but mind blowing? Hmmm, maybe not. I've always liked Laguna Seca from both '87 and '88. Can of worms on this one is empty as we can all hopefully appreciate (as I do) Spacebrother's sentiment...

Ventura County Fairgrounds 6/14/87

Thanks for sharing the cuts from Ventura the last couple of week. The performance is so powerful that to me, it dwarfs almost all that preceded it from any and every era. Jerry's voice is in perfect shape as if he were 15 years younger and his guitar playing is some of his best from any era. This run NEEDS to be released.
