    July 28 - August 03, 2014

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from the 1980s exclusively, a big batch of Brent era Grateful Dead.

Our first selection is from 12/14/80 in Long Beach, CA, when the Dead were on quite a roll after the Warfield-Radio City shows in September and October. From the start of the second set we have Cold Rain and Snow>Samson and Delilah, It Must Have Been The Roses, Estimated Prophet>The Wheel. The Wheel cuts at the start of the song, a master cassette flip, so that explains that. The first song also comes in a bit late due to the tape starting late.

From three years later on 9/4/83 in Park City, UT, we have the start of the second set again, featuring Scarlet Begonias>Fire On The Mountain, Man Smart Woman Smarter.

Last this week, we have the start of the second set again, and the end of the second set, from 2/7/89 in Oakland, the last-ever Dead show at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland. From this Mardi Gras show, we have Iko Iko; Victim Or The Crime ; We Can Run ; Uncle John's Band>Drums>Space>The Wheel>Throwing Stones>Foolish Heart>Good Lovin'. This was one of the mellowest Dead shows I ever saw, with band and crowd seeming quite laid back. It's always cool when the Dead switched things up a bit, and that Throwing Stones>Foolish Heart>Good Lovin' closer certainly qualifies as switched up.

Be sure to stop in next week, and feel free to write to me with questions or comments at the email address below.
