    Scarlet Begonais > transition jam
Not a late-seventies or eighties guy strickly speaking but where else are you gonna go for a torrid Jerry solo on Scarlet Begonias, or a monster transition jam on the way to FOTM? The Big Guy marks the last day of summer here in Gotham with a ripping lead break on Scarlet, one that's just phenomenal, as is the whole show. (Obviously it's why DG is presenting the whole thing on his program, in weekly chunks). The best endorsement of any Jerry solo on Scarlet is when it's apparent he himself is getting off on it. The mark of this to me is when it seems like the band has absolutely got to be regrouping at their respective mics for the 'The wind and the willow played tea for two' reentry line, effectively ending the solo, but instead Jerry just continues shredding for another measure or two. And we have that here. Ah, musical bliss. That all said, there's an audience recording of this Scarlet> transition jam that's been on my iPod for a long time now and it represents deliciously just how much the crowd was into this night as well, which as we all know is probably what was fueling Jerry throughout. I was a little stunned to hear how antiseptic this SBD plays.
