    especially
the way that by the end of the evening the condensation on the walls had dripped down on the spiral walkways and made them a bit hazardous when one was not necessarily in the best hazard-negotiating condition.

I got to see what a nice little place this was on 12/31/01 We parked across the street and got in line which strected around the building. (see pics on Phil's site) good vibe about the place. Quick story - As NYE approched we got too hot so we went to back door to get some air and there's Bobby,Mickey,Bill getting into wizzrds costumes outside the door and Phill in a police uniform next to them...My wife jabs me and we say "Hi" to our freaky looking friends. They pass us in their drag and dissapear. I knew at the stoke of midnight who those charaters on the float going up to the stage were. Happy New Year...

I lived about a mile away in 85, I walked to shows. When I moved back to SF it was still only a BART ride away. Chinese New Year, Valentines Day, Mardi Gras. Man did Uncle Bill know how to throw a party!

Only time to CA and for a New Years show! Totally new experience for East Coast Head. Wish I could have made other CA shows. Unbelieveable experiences! Hey, number 7 are you out there?

Remember dancing to the hallway speakers in 89 when during Cassidy someone broke out a tamborine and started playing when appropriate! These shows were brutal outside, there was an arctic blast in town.

I loved the never ending spiral walkway as each turn lead to another and another... I was there for the Chinese New Year. Very cool. The dragon managed to negotiate the crowd with amazing skill. Trying not to conform to the hippy tie dye thing, I threw on a plain T shirt with a tiger on it. Of course, it happened to be the year of the tiger. Now I'm trying not to try.

Was a really old and funky place and a great venue to see the Grateful Dead. This was the place where I recall the Dead had their greatest mastery over the energy -- from soaring heights to hardly moving and everything in between. Truly, it was a place that they could rightly call home, even if it wasn't in SF. I never did get a chance to see a show there after it was refurbished and called the Kaiser. In a way I'm glad as it was always the Oakland Aud. to me.
