cuts off at 21:00 I know it's strange but I work thru these backwards in time - I had never read such kind words about "Wave to the Wind" as those that Dave wrote.

It's great to sit at home and listen to the Dead play in 1973.

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1973, 1991 and 1993, a broad range of three versions of the Grateful Dead lineup.

Our first stop this week is on 3/16/73 at Nassau Coliseum, the second night of a three night run at Nassau, the Dead's first-ever stop there. From this show, we have the first set opening sequence of China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Jack Straw ; Wave That Flag ; Looks Like Rain ; Ramble On Rose ; Box Of Rain ; Beat It On Down The Line ; They Love Each Other ; El Paso ; Row Jimmy, including a very rare show opening China>Rider.

With a more traditional second set opening China>Rider, from 3/17/91 at the Capital Center in Landover, MD, we have the start of the second set, featuring China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Man Smart (Woman Smarter) ; Crazy Fingers ; Truckin' ; New Speedway Boogie, including the first east coast New Speedway Boogie in 21 years.

Our final selection this week is the start of the second set from 3/11/93 at Rosemont Horizon near Chicago, where we have Iko Iko ; Wave To The Wind > Truckin' > Spoonful > He's Gone. Wave To The Wind always offered up a nice jam, which reminded me of Eyes Of The World.

Be sure to join us next week for more music from the vault.

Nassau cops arrested a lot of heads at this run and the fall run, needless to say the dead did not return until 79. The Dark Star>Trucking, Dew, Sugar Mags to close the show is a sweet listen if you have an hour.

Where the fuck did I park the car. After what seemed like almost forever, driving out of parking lot told my buddies, "don't make eye contact with the cops". Sometimes amazed I lived to tell about those days. Went to at least two of those nights. Venue seemed like a giant cave after Fillmore/Capitol Theater days. Cold, impersonal. Anyway the music sure peaked.
