    Incredible show!!
    1. Very Hazy memory..Pigpen Died in March of 1973. Anyway this show is amazing. The Dark Star goes into space. Phil is just on fire all night long. The experience of listening to this show always has my smiling ear to ear.

    First show
Some friends of mine were just back from Europe and this was my first Dead show - I had never liked them on record too much before that - more of an Airplaner/Quicksilver fan at the time. I had been working in a union factory and playing in a hard rock band on Cleveland's south side, doing Deep Purple and Bowie. I wore some rather inappropriate glam rock clothes and felt out of place, but it didn't last too long after that. My kids have all worn the fitted velvet jacket I had on that night, when my hair was still halfway down my back. I remember everyone being thrilled that they did Dark Star, and that was the only time I saw the band with Pigpen. We were up in the balcony about half way back on the left (stage right), or Phil's side. Hazy memories, but I was definitely there.

    amazing band
Garcia wrestled his devils to the floor this show. I'd seen the band two years before at the Allan and thought they were awesome, then in '72 at PublicHall (a decidedly off night for the boys) but this show clinched it for me.

Convention Center is location which contains both Public Hall (big hall...beautiful old art-deco arena) and Music Hall (smaller theater...awesome acoustice) with adjoining stages. The Dead played both. Am I right to assume this was at Public Hall?

Preliminary wall of sound implementation appeared at the February 1974 Winterland shows, with the full Wall premiering at the Cow Palace on March 23, 1974. After the band took a break in October, the Wall never returned.Check this great site out: http://www.audiojunkies.com/blog/730/

Is this show on CD? This is one of the longest versions of Dark Star.

I really like the 5 piece line up at this show without Mickey and Donna. Does anyone know other shows from this year (or other years) that have the same quintet line up?

Hi Snow and Rain:My 'end of show' actually goes Eyes>Sugar Mag>Stella (you know, Jerry>Bob>Jerry rather than Jerry>Jerry>Bob) and even THAT isn't the end of the show, there is still at least ONE encore in there, maybe two, but we've never heard the actual ENTIRE show either aud or sbd. Since the bonus disc from May 2011 is from this show...drool, drool, drool...maybe the first three discs will be basically what we have and the bonus disc will be the true ending of the show plus other material from December 1973, any of which will be welcome material considering the quality of what we have now (it ain't bad but officially released material ALWAYS beats what's going around in trading circles!). Who knows. It's really against my priniciples to buy into this scam (I mean OPPORTUNITY) but with 12-6-73 being part of it, I may have to find a way. I'd really love to be able to mark this show (and year) as being 100% complete on my list, you know? Finally, to 'Snashforce': I believe that ANY show after the Tempe show on 11-25-73 will be 'Donna-less' until she comes back on whatever date in 1974. Years ago, we used to hear rumors about a 'de-Donna-fier' (which is kinda cruel, I suppose) but damned funny and maybe not a bad idea? How many Playin' howls can you listen to? Loser and Dark Star are what I most remember about this show, a good one when put in the context of shows that followed.
