    Thank you Marshun!
Thanks Marshun! It's so much easier to be deployed in today's world instead of 1989 when I started doing this stuff...

    Official Release
3-24-81 would make a perfect DaP. Solid through and through. It would also please everyone pining for a show from the 80's. Both sets feature many moments of note.

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1972, 1974 and 1981.

Our first selection is from the Academy of Music in New York City on 3/22/72, where we have big batch of first set music featuring Me And My Uncle ; Sugaree ; Chinatown Shuffle ; Playing In The Ban; It Hurts Me Too ; Brown Eyed Women ; El Paso ; Brokedown Palace.

Next up is music from the Wall Of Sound debut on 3/23/74 at the Cow Palace in Daly City, just south of San Francisco, where we have the third and final sequence of Playing In The Band>Uncle John's Band>Morning Dew>Uncle John's Band>Playing In The Band. The previous times they played this sequence were 11/10/73 at Winterland, and 11/17/73 at UCLA.

Lastl this week, from London, England's Rainbow Theatre on 3/24/81, we have the start of the second set, featuring Shakedown Street; Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance> He's Gone. This Shakedown Street goes all sorts of strange and exciting places.

Be sure to join us here next week for more Grateful Dead music from the vault.

All 3 shows prime for the pickens. 3.22 portion could have been added as filler on disc 3 to Dave's 14. Sugaree, It Hurts Me Too, Brokedown Palace would have been nice, plus a couple more. 3.24.81 - Shakedown is primetime

This Shakedown is as fantastic as they come. I've been a large fan of this version ever since they rocked it out on 30 Days of Dead a couple years ago. As for the filler question, a lot people dislike the idea of filler when it interrupts the continuity or flow of a show (being placed at the tail end of an unfinished set) but in this particular case (DaP 14) there was ample space and opportunity for it so I have no idea what gives here. I absolutely would have appreciated more material. How about a 4 disc set, or a double dose like Dick's Picks 29 to compensate ptb?

Love the soft, slow groove on this song by Jerry in 1972 at Academy of Music.

Oops, looks like Taper's Section got uploaded to Jam of the Week, while Taper's Section has last week's selections.

Off for the ride starting last with Shakedown Street. Nice neighborhood for the kids to play and all. Gonna be a great afternoon. Briefly saw the Jam of the week up there, think it was a Knick show. Keep your eyes peeled. It can't have gone very far. Enjoying the ride.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: You can never have enough 72 Dead!..but lately, I've felt the same about '74 also!...I like '81 also....an '81 show or box would not disappoint.....Take care folks!

Listen to Jerry sing and play guitar. The Grateful Dead immortalized this song.

Today, as I woke up deployed overseas...I was greeted by a FaceTime session with my wife and newborn son. He was about one hour old when I saw him for the first time. For those who have children, you understand the fear, awe, excitement and uncertainty that comes with new life. Music has always been a powerful link to major events in my life. So you can imagine the importance that the first Dead selection I played after seeing my new son was going to be. My selections out here are limited, so I went to Tapers Section and saw the light! 3/23/74 was an old bootleg I had that I always wished would be professionally released. Thanks to Dick, that became reality years ago. Now, I have a new connection with this amazing jam. As I listened to this sequence, I imagined everything that is waiting for me when I get home and the new purpose my life has. When my plane touches down back in the States later this year, I know the first thing my son and I are going to listen to. Well, maybe the second...if he's crying when I finally meet him in person! Thanks Dick and Thanks Dave...for a real good time! Have a great week everyone!!

So glad you were able to connect with your wife and new born son and then celebrate with the jams that are special to you and so many others. Especially since you are deployed far away. Thank you!
