DH/NJ, with a publicity statement like this, it's categorically unbelievable that Polizatto's book isn't better known... http://hungadunga.org/Press%20Kit.htm /K

As pup and I hit the trailhead at 3:30, it was a balmy 72F in the SE mtns, yet a glance at the temperature map prior to departure revealed an iron curtain of polar air stretching from Canada to deep TX that had already crossed the Mississippi into western KY. Thus, it was with a sense of profound melancholy that we undertook a languid 8 miler, allowing time to absorb the season's last hint of summer warmth and sunshine. Though we'll spend considerable time between now and March around 50, and maybe even flirt with the low 60s for a handful of days, it's probably safe to say that 70 - "like a steam locomotive rolling down the tracks" - is gone, gone, gone. Anyway, my soundtrack to this wooded paradise still cloaked in Fall's last resplendent reds and yellows while bathed in that inimitable hazy gold late season sun, was the latest reissue of Clapton & various Co. during their incarnation as Derek and the Dominoes, Live at the Fillmore....during an interview with Bob, Blair once described the Dead's music as "jazz syntax with a rock lexicon", and while the former served as my portal of introduction to this idiom, I've immensely enjoyed the discovery of confident, capable, like-minded performers who indulged the same type of freedom and risk inherent to this artistic endeavor (Clapton with Cream and D&D; Canned Heat; Ten Years After; Floyd; and ABB to name a few...). Now, load the quiver onto the roof rack and let's hit the slopes (hopefully soon!)/K

...without love everyday, insanity's king... Gr8ful, Jeff and KC Phil will wing out to see Heavenly this weekend, mixed-in with an Alpine and Kirkwood. Any ideas for cheap lift tickets and good brewpubs will be appreciated! We may catch Steve Kimock on the north side of Tahoe, with War in Stateline on Saturday.
