    Dallas Alice
If my memory serves me correctly her name we knew her by was Dallas Alice Load ORGASMIC Groans. All over the Bay Area back then. Bit more intense at the Stone in San Fran. Aside from that listening to this one this morning. I always love the Playin in the Band 2nd set openers. Left room for a very trippy night or day. This show does not disappoint at all either.

The Greek was a great place for intimate live music, and provided many of my favorite shows; a month after this show, I saw Jimmy Buffett there on his SOMEWHERE OVER CHINA tour. Van Morrison performed here in 1986 and 1990. John Lee Hooker dueted with Joan Baez at a BREAD & ROSES benefit here in 1989 or 90. Seeing a band at the Greek was almost like being at a Dead show whoever the performer: Andreas Volleweider, Kitaro, Yes ... even Love & Rockets and King Crimson played there in the 80s. This is the run that set a pattern for the 80s: in late spring or early Summer, the Dead would play three days at the Greek: Fri - Sat - Sun. Friday would be at 7:00, allowing us to retain our jobs; Sat would be at 5:00, giving us room to party afterward, and Sun would be at 3:00 -- allowing us time to go home and come down, and getting to bed in time for our Monday routine. This was perfect for those of us who had jobs in the area. 5-21-82 was my second show, and one for which I had breathlessly waited after my first taste in 1981. Hearing the tapes more recently, I felt vindicated: the Greek '82 run is strong and thrilling, and fully justifies the enthusiasm I had for the band for years to follow. Too bad I don't have photos: the company of friends, the sunny warmth of the Greek Theatre bowl, the view from the grassy hill on the top. Hey, if you were there, you know; if not, you have similar memories of your own: other places and times, maybe other bands. "It's always a nice day for a blessing"

I concur with lefty and jprisco, this was also my first run at the geek and what a grate time we had. One of my fondest memories was looking across the bowl about halfway up there were usually these 3 blond babes with waist long hair. and they used to be synchronized in there dancing and spinning and tossing there hair about. Weather they were 3 across or sometimes one above the other. WOW watching all this hair spin and flip back was a trip. At the July 84 shows my new g/f was not pleased with the little attention I was paying to her. So she strips down to her bikini panties, and I have to explain to her. You see these 6 guys are down here on the stage for one reason, to entertain me. Now if I don't show them how much I am enjoying the show, they will be offended and not do a very good show. Now all these other people are just like extras on a Hollywood movie set, and after the show I will give you all the attention you desire. But for now we have a limited amount of time to enjoy the show.

has always been one of my favorites. It's short, but that moment where they break out UJB still gives me the chills. In a good way.

was where I caught my first 3 show run in 1981. Wasn't it grate to grow up in the bay area and have so many same venue's to attend. The hardest thing about the geek shows was dropping off friend who lived in Cupertino when car pooling. Driving across the S & M (San Mateo) bridge and the lights that were in the inner guard rail just about window height, and the trails as you drive along the long stretch of road. Gadzook's a sea monster!!!

i remember those girls -they were always at the greek shows. i'm glad someone remembers them too. i think it was my second time at the greek when one of the girls appeared at our side wearing fairly skimpy lingerie, swinging her hair around in a circle and letting out some very loud groans. this was a bit intense for us in our state of mind.....i found out from my taper friends that her name was alice and there was a poem about her that started "alice, oh alice what you do to my uv's..." thanks for bringing back the memories.
