My favorite summer festival is one that features incredibly unique, professional, unsigned, independent artists that truly need a high-quality exposure event to boost their careers to a level so they can earn a decent living performing and recording their musical visions. Not sure that one exists? If it does, please let me know who I can reach out to in order to be considered for a performance slot.

Watkins Glen, '72. The unexpected Friday night sound check was some of the sweetest most laid back jam I've ever heard the band do. Lots of fun despite being quite unprepared. Spent Friday night sleeping in the trunk of a car! Right up there with Barton Hall '77. I was tripping heavily for that and couldn't be sure that it was really as good as it sounded until I heard a recording of it later.

This is more of a main stream music festival but it always sprinkles in some good bluegrass (Billy Strings, and Infamous Stringdusters to name a few) John Mayer, Robert Plant, promise of The Real, Margo Price and others have given the festival some character.

I can't stand festivals! There's more than one band and sometimes more than one stage. The time spent going between stages as well as the short sets each band plays is not for me. I would much rather go to a Grateful Dead concert and get nothing but the good ol' Grateful Dead. This also applies to other acts that I might want to see.

Are by far my favorite summer festivals...there are several throughout the summer...the love, the family, and the music...you can feel it in the air....it's at beautiful Camp Zoe near Salem, MO...in the middle of the forest...thousands of kynd people, hundreds of vendors, all put on by a fabulous GD Tribute band (The Schwag)..I love it...can't get enough of it. Is always a good time. Jazz Aspen Snowmass over Labor Day is usually pretty good too. "I have spent my life seeking all that's still unsung. Bent my ear to hear the tune, and closed my eyes to see. When there were no strings to play, you played to me."

The first Rothbury Festival was last year, and it was amazing, the music, Phil & Mickey both played on different nights, along with Michael Franti & Spearhead and lots of other great bands, it is totally eco-friendly, and even has a think tank that works to address environmental issues, it is an amazing venue, at the JJ Ranch, and I am so psyched they just this week confirmed that there will be another next year, but not the line-up so I am really hopeful that they will get The Dead!

Went to the inaugural festival last year. Had a great time! Beautiful location, great people and great music. This year's lineup includes Railroad Earth, Left Over Salmon and DSO (doing one acoustic set). We'll be there for sure. See you there! We've also enjoyed Allgood a lot the last two years. Marvin's Mountaintop is an awesome location.

Mnt jam has consistenly out performed any festival I have attended. The line up is always stellar(Rat dog and Dark star Ochestra last year), NIce late night scene with music in the lodge and in the camping area. The venue consists of mountain vistas and wooded camping areas, There is a beautiful waterfall that has quite envigorating swimming hole. No hassles from secuirty just watch out for the bears!(I like to think of them as the mountain's natural security team)

The 3Gs ('aka Grateful Garcia Gathering), is returning back to the Camp NCN Venue in beautiful Black River Falls Wisconsin July 30th though August 2nd 2009 where it all began over 6 years ago! A grateful place where Garcia fans will be gathering! It also marks the celebration of Jerry Garcia's 67th Birthday, plus the 14th Anniversary of Jerry's untimely passing. We have leased the campground venue for July 30th though August 3rd 2009 for our 6th annual music festival. Other great music festivals have hosted at this venue such as Weedstock, Farmapalooza, Sundog Summer Shakedown, the Big Wu Family Reunion, Campout Roots Festival, Effit Fest, just to name a few! The venue features 75-plus acres of brilliant surroundings with tall trees that nicely shades your camp site. Campers are welcome to have campfires at each individual campsite and firewood is available at the venue. The venue has a full array of conveniences, including 2 facilities with flush toilets and hot showers and other luxurious accommodations. Other venue amenities include a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, hiking trails, outdoor/indoor shower facility, full service concessions with food, two music stages, and more!

For your fishing, swimming, and water sports pleasures the venue has a beautiful five-acre natural spring fed lake with sandy beaches, plus the lake has a paddle boat available for your enjoyment with a fixed swimming platform. Many near by hotels/motels to choose from in Black River Falls if outdoor camping isn't your desire!

This is going to be a very deeply humble, and special time for camping and gathering with friends of old and new! The 3G's will be a mix of wonderful music by some of the best Jambands in the midwest playing their original music, along with their selections of two or three Grateful Dead cover songs. Our friends at Mystix Toyz will be on board at the 3G's for tons of family fun with juggling demonstrations, including juggling workshops, face painting, kids parades, plus drum circles and fire dance jams every night!

had beautiful weather, no mosquitos, and loads of grate times. There were terrific shows by Wilco, Widespread Panic, Steve Kimock's Crazy Engine, Umphrey's McGee, and Dave Matthews Band. There were other bands as well but those were the ones that I caught. The sound was tremendous and the playing remarkable. I urge you all to run, not walk, to see/hear these bands the next time they appear in your area. It was truely some fun up north. The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

Just got an e-mail stating that Furthur will be the headliner! We've been twice before and had a great time both times! Also Railroad Earth, Yonder Mountain String Band, Widespread Panic and Dark Star Orchestra this year. Gonna' get our tickets when they go on sale Friday!

I've been to grateful fest for the last several years, (as well as a variety of other festivals- all good, rothbury, GOTV, 10,000 Lakes, etc.) and as much as I *love* NLQP, it seems as though events there have gone down the tube in the last few years. It's depressing. I'm currently looking for the new "hotspot" in the region, and have heard good things about Terrapin Hill. Any reviews on the scene there or suggestions as far as other venues in the midwest that are more chilled out than the ledges have been for the last few years? The paranoia at the Ledges has really got the best of me, and in the last few years I've had little desire to attend shows at the Ledges due to these concerns.suggestions appreciated!! ------------------------------------------- "A foolish heart will call on you To toss your dreams away Then turn around and blame you For the way you went astray A foolish heart will cost you sleep And often make you curse A selfish heart is troubl

By far the most special summer festival I have ever been to is the Oregon Country Fair, near Eugene, second weekend in July. Currently we love the Mateel Community Center's Summer Arts Festival at Benbow Lake in Humboldt County, and the Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival in Laytonville, both super mellow, laid back events. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is free and great every October in Golden Gate Park if you don't mind hanging out with about half a million people in a really stiff sea breeze. Any free concert in Golden Gate Park is great fun. An event that draws a slightly different crowd is the Redwood Run in Piercy. If you can stand the sound of bikes, the sight of bikers and the smell of exhaust, the Rewood Run is a great party though, sadly, their musical line-up has been somewhat lacking in the last couple of years.

we've got an actual topic for the Oregon Country Fair. It seems to have made quite the impression. HSB features an incredible lineup every year. I don't go because my days of crowd scenes in Golden Gate Park are behind me, but for the younger and less stamina impaired I heartily recommend it.

All I can say is that a bunch of us Dead.netters just went to see ABB and Scaring the Children at Wanee in Florida......WOW, what a nice place that was, I was very impressed with the whole staging and set up of this huge music park at the Spirit of the Sawanee River......HINT HINT HINT...All Deadhead Family....We could have a SERIOUSLY good time at that place if it was ALL Dead! What a blast. _____________________________________________ Will you come with me? Once in awhile you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right!

Damn I'm jealous! How was WP? I am so excited they are coming back to red rocks this year - 3 nights. Also excited about 2 nights of David Grisman Bluegrass Experience in July. To top it off I am surprising my wife with tix to Rush at red rocks. Supposedly they are playing the entire Moving Pictures album. Let's just say I about maxed out the old credit card this weekend :-) Just really hoping I get a chance to see Furthur again this summer... come on guys there are plenty of slots available at RR! Hurry, they fill up fast... please!! I'll go ahead and book you for 3 nights - how about over a weekend in August ;-) (I wish I had that power!!) I don't know yet whether this will be a good fest or not, but it takes place a 30 seconds walk from my front door, is free, and yeah well look at the one image they used on the page :-) http://www.euro-festival.info/node/14 ********************************** By trying we can easily learn to endure adversity -- another man's I mean.
