    August 3 - August 9, 2015

Welcome back to the Taper's Section, where this week we have music from 1973, 1978 and 1979

Our first selection this week is a rare one-song here at the Tapers' Section, but if there was ever a good song title for stand-alone inclusion, it's this: Playing In The BandPlaying In The Band from 5/20/73 at UCSB Stadium in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA.

From five years later at the penultimate show of the Spring Tour of 1978, we have the start of the second set featuring almost an hour of music before they headed into Rhythm Devils, with these six songs: Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain, El Paso , Ship Of Fools , Estimated Prophet > He's Gone.

Lastly this week, from Brent's first tour with the Grateful Dead, we have some first set music consisting of New Minglewood Blues; Peggy-O; Passenger.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

I think the '78 clip is Chicago 5/16 and the '79 5/7 Easton, PA.

Sounds like it's from 1/4 inch 2 track reels to me.

The Uptown Theatre opened its doors August 18, 1925, billed as "An Acre of Seats in a Magic City."In the 1970s, the theater was revived as a major concert venue, hosting local and national acts, notably the Grateful Dead several times between 1978 and 1981. The J. Geils Band was the last band to play at the theater. The Chicago Cubs smoked the SF Giants in a three game series @ Wrigley field 08.06-08.08.15.Just a few blocks away. Chicago my hometown. excellent sound and no Charlie Miller funk.
