    October 05 - October 11, 2015

Greetings. Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music by the Grateful Dead from 1973, 1984 and 1990.

Our first selection is from Memorial Coliseum in Portland, OR, on 6/24/73, during a short tour of the west coast (Vancouver, Portland, Seattle, three in LA). From the second set, we have the big jam sequence of Dark Star> Eyes Of The World> China Doll > Sugar Magnolia, One More Saturday Night.

From a year later at Merriweather Post Pavillion on 6/27/84, we have the end of the second set, featuring Space> Morning Dew> Throwing Stones> Not Fade Away. These two shows at Merriweather were excellent.

Lastly this week, we'll head back to Oregon, to the first night of a two night run at Autzen Stadium in Eugene on 6/23/90, where we have the end of the second set, featuring Space > The Wheel > I Need A Miracle> Morning Dew, One More Saturday Night. We hope you don't mind two versions of Morning Dew this week.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

I have an idea for the next box extravaganza, all of 73 that has not be released.

And the forecast calls for... still more goosebumps! There are some interesting things going on in the final crescendo build-up jam at the end. Always fun to follow Bobby's rhythm playing. In contrast, the Morning Dew from Autzen Stadium almost pales in comparison. Phil's bass sound at times is not pleasant. I guess it doesn't matter, anyways!

MPP '84 and Cal Expo '90 are too good not to release. I think box sets from Summer '84 and '90 West Coast late spring/early summer would be awesome. That '90 Eugene run is perfection from the first note of the first day to the last note of the last day.

Love that show. I haven't listened to it in a while. Good choice! Like the partial VFTV RFK show from 7/12/90, it's a travesty that it wasn't officially released as a full show. Speaking of VFTV, I'm quite surprised that with all of the 50th hoopla, there hasn't been a DVD/Blu-Ray vault release this year (excluding Fare Thee Well), like 7/18/89, 7/19/89 or 4/21/72.

Remember, Dave L is the video guy and View From the Vault series started in 2000,, shortly after he took over as audiovisual archivist.. So hopefully he has a few more coming down the line.. Not sure how sales for those did,, but they are still available and very cheap for the DVD,, CD is more $$.. Also Film Doc announcement should be part of more big news this year for 2016 release.. It would make sense to release another pro-shot film from 89-90, Alpine would be the obvious choice because its been seen in Theaters already.. maybe the Giants Stadium show,, maybe 7.9.89

My first show and best one. Never forget having three way telepathic conversations with the black lab who wandered up the steps to sit down by me and my friend. Too weird. My friend chewed a big steal your face sticker he had bought into little pieces and it was all over the ground at our feet. Maybe the black lab told him to? Amazing they went from peak of their powers to "nothing on a stick" in less than five years.
