    January 11 - January 17, 2016

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1972, 1981 and 1987.

Our first selection this week is from the Berkeley Community Theatre in beautiful Berkeley, CA, on 8/24/72, featuring a sold batch of first set music: The Promised Land, Sugaree, Jack Straw, China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider, Me And My Uncle, Bird Song. All of these songs would be played three days later at one of the most famous (and best!) Grateful Dead shows, the Veneta, OR, show on 8/27/72.

Next up is music from 5/13/81 in Providence, RI, where we have the end of the first set, featuring Bird Song, Let It Grow>Deal. We hope you don't mind two versions of Bird Song this week here at the Tapers' Section.

Finally this week is the end of the show from my first Gratefil Dead concert on 3/26/87 in Hartford, CT, where we have I Need A Miracle>Black Peter>Around and Around>Good Lovin', Mighty Quinn. While the bigger jams might have been a bit lacking in 1987, the Dead sure made up for it with high-energy, inspired performances such as this one.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

    Brent Era Birdsong's
My two Favorites are the Dome 10/20/84 w/ a Killer Jack Straw that follows to close the first set and the 3/29/90 show with Branford. Oxford 88 Birdsong was great also, but more for the visuals of the ultra-light flying over the masses at the speedway in Maine with a beautiful Maine sunset just about to take place.

Right on, Grateful Prof! No such thing as too much Bird Song. Such a pretty song, and always one of my favorite jamming vehicles. Thanks Dave, for sharing the other side of that great Hartford set. Maybe play the first set next week..? It's got a great Bird Song, too! And a bunch of other great stuff. Looking forward to listening to the rest of this weeks offerings as well. Thanks again... wheee!!
