Getting into a nice stretch here recently at Taper's with fun eras with nice music. '76, '80 and '81 are top years for me...

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from a five year span, 1976-1981.

Our first selection this week is from the slightly underrated Fall Tour of 1976, the second tour of the Dead’s comeback after the big June-July batch of shows. From9/27/76 in Rochester, NY, we have the start of the first set, featuring The Promised Land, They Love Each Other, El Paso, Deal, Looks Like Rain..

Next up is the start of the third set from 10/3/80 at the Warfield in San Francisco during the Dead’s three week stand of shows to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Grateful Dead. From this show we have Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain ; Samson And Delilah ; Ship Of Fools ; Playing In The Band.

Lastly this week is the start of the show from 9/27/81 in Landover, MD, the final show for a three night “tour” just before the Dead left for the Europe ’81 Fall Tour, which started on 9/30/81 in Edinburgh, Scotland. From Landover, we have Jack Straw ; Alabama Getaway > The Promised Land ; Candyman > Little Red Rooster ; Althea.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

David Lemieux

Nice stretch for sure and has seen a fair amount of love here on Dead.net. Who knows, maybe we'll see a release of some sort someday.

Dave, if your listening (reading) today is the 35th Anniversary of my 1st show. 3/10/81 at MSG ! What a great show... give a listen (x-sound-bomb during Half-step opener:-) ) The band recovered quickly and put together a great list of songs. The 2nd Set is blistering (IMHO)! Double Encore w/ Satisfaction/Brokedown Palace :-) The night before was (some say) even better. This would make a GREAT 2-show MSG release! Just sayin, if your considering an '81 show for DaP. iGrateful
