Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from 1971, 1973 and 1980.

Our first stop this week is on 2/18/71 in Portchester, NY, where the Dead were opening a six night run at the Capital Theatre, with this show being Mickey’s last for a few years. Casey Jones ; Playing In The Band; Me And Bobby McGee ; Candyman ; Big Boss Man ; Sugar Magnolia. They debuted many songs at this run, including this first-ever live Playing In The Band.

Next is a big second set jam from 2/19/73 in Chicago, which cuts off at the end where the master reel cuts, but what is here is terrific: He's Gone > Truckin' > The Other One.

Lastly this week is the end of the third set from 10/18/80 in New Orleans, where the Dead stopped for two night en route to New York City, Space > Not Fade Away > Black Peter > Around And Around > Johnny B. Goode, One More Saturday Night. This was the Dead’s first appearance in New Orleans since they were busted down on Bourbon Street in 1970.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
