Joined:Deadicated........the summer '03 Phish tour is in full swing.
Current. 7.26. Atlanta. The venue was called HiFi Buys Amphitheater back then i guess.
Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.
Taking a Wolfmans for a walk.
PM sent strat-wolf-bean.
I'm always up for a serious Phish story.
Whoops. I have a few PM's that I haven't responded to. Fixing that.
Lots of good messages. I will put "checking PM"s on dead.net" on my mental health calendar.
Ya know, PM'S are my step ladder regarding meeting some awesome people in person. So there's that. - strat-wolf-bean
Joined:Big Red Story ...Saw him several times - Worcester '87 at the side of the stage with Larry Bird, et. al. & at Dominguez Hills May 1990, including pretty close up - 10 steps off the rail on the right - on the 2nd day ...
.
Anyway, my Bill Walton story (as such) took place at a Garcia Band Warfield, SF show in - TBH IDK the date, 1990 ?? >> Sat in line out side the theatre on Market street most of the day getting high with whoever was at the front of the line (was that you??, haha) ... Show starts, most cool, as I am in the perfect spot dead center 2-3 bodies back loving the 1st set, etc. Break time, I head to "the head" > doin' what cha do at the urinal and suddenly - at least to my fairly addled mind - the lights go out! No, they did NOT go out, they were ECLIPSED by something (or someone ; ) big/tall enough to make me think so ... I look to my right and there's Bill. I said "Hey, Bill. Nice first set" - or something like that. He looked down at me > from literally a foot taller and said "Yeah, man" ...
.
Sh*t! That's all I've got > But if you want a serious Phish story (ehem, Vguy talkin to you here) just shoot me a PM, and I will regale you. - strat-wolf-bean
Joined:11.20.71 Pauley Pavilion - The "Big Red" Honorarium ...This one kind of gets a bad rap, but like the Scranton release I guess there are some legit reasons for that >> So, Half & Half (no, not what you put in your coffee): Half pretty darn great and Half too tinny and, at points, a little abrasive ... Latter 1st Set is good after "the sound" settles in, and the Other One has (first) a very nice Caution!-like Jam and what is likely the first foray into a sparkling Funk-y type groove that would show up again (big time) in '74 shows ... Balance that quality against a fairly thin recording (plus a few 'clams' here and there) which has Keith & Bill way up in the mix and is mostly 'light' on Phil/depth.
.
Note: I love the Albuquerque show that precedes this one > and think this night is decent/pretty good, solid but not spectacular, and really just needed a better balanced recording to shine better ...
.
All of that +/-, and there's still disc 3 (Kiel Aud St. Louis 10.24.70) which is, as I recall, actually pretty freakin' Spectacular ; )
.
Listening to Dancin' now >> With the "Tighten Up" (groove) Jam that would eventually transform into Eyes of the World
