Grateful Dead

One of my very favorite shows from 1976. Seconded - I hope it sees official release someday.

50 years ago I was up in S.F. at the tiny Orpheum Theatre for a knockout show with the Good old Grateful Dead. Hopefully this show will see an official release one day.

....new record due in six weeks.

I was also at the Greek for that legendary show and shooting star during DS. On KFOG the next morning they assured us all it was real and not the drugs!

I seen the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Saturday evening. It was very good!

42 years ago I was up at The Greek Theatre for a cool show and a Dark Star encore.

HF - they look interesting for all that. I have found the first one, second hand, which is very inexpensive - and which has a track from Mississippi Fred McDowell on it which is good for me.
I also got a BB King 4 cd box set of early material last month - "Vintage Years" on Ace Records. Great sound and presented in a beautiful oblong box with impressive booklet - so if that's the one you've ordered you have got a good 'un.

If only I could decipher your outbursts, Oro, I might be helpful... You must be Or-acular for mentioning BB, because a 4-CD set of his early years is set to arrive this afternoon, which will make my considerable BB collection larger -- a collection with a huge injection from forensicdoc, who sent me a hard drive with massive live BB I haven't even explored yet.

Daverock, good news and "bad" news: the AFBF DVDs are ~69 tracks by ~50 artists and some tracks appear to be segue from one to another as they were performed in sequence. However, many are "isolated" tracks with no apparent sequential order. I can only imagine that "they" have lots more footage and found it commercially viable to put out the four volumes with selections across the tour locations and years. I haven't delved behind the scenes to try to understand the locations and dates, but many appear to be in Germany, based on the insanely good microphones and film imagery. Also (chuckling), a number of camera shots include quite German-looking (as in stern) audience members smoking furiously in their horn-rimmed glasses... In one Lonnie Johnson segment, he delivers the goods flawlessly and dispassionately while frat boys gather in the audience. As for "bad" news, there must be much more footage but the last volume appeared in 2007. So i'm guessing that until the next blues revival or my passing into the next world, no more is forthcoming. That said, 50 of the greatest blues artists captured in fine form and quality sound and picture is really one of my collection's motherlodes. Among a jillion blues CDs here, having sight and sound is cool. There's also a standalone DVD of Memphis Slim and Sonny Boy Williamson from the same tours that I put up there with the AFBF material. It just doesn't get any better "if you love these blues."
