yowza - didn't even cross my mind that it was "that" anniversary. my 50th show. 16th row center courtesy of my brother. back in Chicago for a family visit and he had extra tickets for 7/8 and 7/9. the 7/8 Visions of Johanna blew me away. only decided to follow it up with 7/9 at the last second (weird head space) and raced to Soldiers Field and made it to the floor with seconds to spare before Set I.

38 years ago I was up at the Frost for a great show with the Garcia Acoustic Band and Hot Tuna.. This was the Garcia Acoustic Bands last public appearance. I saw them play 5 times, they were really cool! Fun times!

I think that David Gans & Ken Nordine interview is on a Grateful Dead Hour as I distinctly recall having a tape that had that on it and likely had some bits of that show too. I gave those GD Hours to a budding Deadhead a few years ago so I will research the GD Hour archive. Ken was new to me then, except for voice overs for Coors, lol.

A personal favorite of the 50 shows I saw so my thoughts are through the "I was there and it was awesome" filter. A fantastically fun afternoon in Autzen. Sweet sweet Here Come Sunshine opener - with that my cup already runneth over. My first Lazy River Road - a beautiful late period song. Bird Song. Trucking > Smokestack. The highlight was the crazy beautiful GOAT Standing on the Moon - over the top finish by Jerry as he reprises the final verse and then just blazes the finish. I was full on weeping tears of joy. The GD debut of Lightning Bolt (I loved the tone of that guitar.) First played at JGB show in Seattle Memorial Coliseum 8/7/93, another fantastic show that my brother and I saw (please release it JGB folks.) To any one curious about 8/21 (afternoon show), very much worth seeking out the Oregon Trail Mix local FM promo that Healy fed through PA before the show (Mike Albright source has it.) It features D. Ganz and Ken Fucking Nordine. I had listened to Word Jazz years earlier on its home station of WBEZ and I was slightly disoriented by what I was hearing! 8/22/93 was also blast. Rough start with Bobby's Jack Straw melt down where he trashed the pink Strat mid song back stage (I could see him do it!) H>S>F. The Wheel. Days Between . . . . Really my last shows of dream time care free summer during the Jerry years.

Currently listening to 8/21. 8/22 in not so distant future. Also - discovered that SBDs of Dead & Co Boulder '23 shows stream on apple music - they sound great - so I've been revisiting that run (7/1 really really blew my feathers back and the whole run was great .)

A three nut run that was destined for an official release-- all you need to know about what the band is up to these day. Listening makes me feel like a happy man strolling the left bank of the Seine. Nothing but continual joining while also going along on my own way. Miles after miles of textural bliss. Feeling simply surface.... a blessing from the ground and down from the above both.
