Speaking of birds, my daughter bought me a Birdfy feeder for Fathers Day last year. It has a webcam. Really cool! We have a pair of cardinals that come and go all day long. - Colin Gould
Joined:Wilson’s SnipeWe have Common Snipe over here, they make a great sound when doing a display flight. We have seen a Wilson’s Snipe in the UK. It was on the Isles of Scilly, an area famous for getting vagrants from both the west (USA) and the East. Birdsong is well worth listening to.
Edit: We have also seen Great Blue Heron on Scilly - bluecrow
Joined:Wilson's Snipe?!Very cool! Bird lover here and I don't think I've ever seen one. That snipe winnowing sound is crazy! Back when you posed this bird ID question a couple years ago I thought it might be the wing sound of a diving nighthawk based on your general description. Wasn't aware there another species around here that produced such a distinctive wing noise while diving.

Best way to unwind once back? Watch some BBC Attenborough of course! Horned toads/lizards are the current topic. Used to catch them when I was a kid. And yes, they do shoot blood from their eyes. Blew my ten year old mind. Happy Hundredth Birthday Sir.
Widespread Panic tonight. I enjoy them.
Dammit. This is current listening page isn't it?
Attenborough counts! Colin said so.
Edit. Ooooh. Armadillo lizards? Rad. They bite their tail to protect their unarmored bellies. Oroborous! Where are you? - CCRider3659

Now listening to 58 disc 2 with strong coffee. I can never get enough 73 and this is top shelf stuff. Where to put all this music that keeps appearing in my home!

Joined:Calling all bird brains! After at least what, six?, seven years (6, 7 yuck yuck) I finally found out what that bird is I’ve been obsessed with naming. (And some of you tried to help with)
Out for a walk with TOO and we come across two birders checking out a blue heron, of the supposed six nesting pairs we have here, as well as dozens of others they Id this AM via Merlin. So we ask them about my elusive bird and I make their distinctive noise and the guy instantly knows what it is and pulls it up and sho nuff, woop there it is: a Wilson Snipe and the noise isn’t it’s call, but winnowing? sound they make during flight!
Sigh,I can now die a content man ; )
We’re fortunate to have a big native area and wetlands all throughout the center of town (best thing about this place) which is a prolific bird sanctuary for both migrating and local species as well as huge Elk and Mule Deer herds etc. Plus Mountain lions, Bobcats, coyotes Bears, Foxes etc, Wolves close by too.
Makes me remember nature in general and y’all wishing David Attenborough happy happy joy joy big one hundo! Besides the wonderful, informative aspect, he’s the best sleep aid ever…something about his voice that just soothe the soul, calms a person down, and puts ya right to sleep!
Love DA and especially at bed time!
