    I love Clams
That 89 Clam is tearing my insides up. Ventura shows and 84 Olympics kicked off the next week, saw Michael Jordan play in person for the first time.

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from three years during the Brent era, 1981, 1984 and 1989.

Our first selection is from 7/8/81 in St. Louis, featuring Althea ; Me And My Uncle > Big River ; Don't Ease Me In ; New Minglewood Blues.

Next is the first set from 7/21/84 in Ventura, featuring Shakedown Street ; Little Red Rooster ; Althea ; Me And My Uncle > Mexicali Blues ; China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Looks Like Rain ; Might As Well. That’s a bit of a rarity, the mid-first-set China>Rider.

Lastly this week is the start of the second set from 7/15/89 at Deer Creek, the Dead’s first visit to the new venue in Noblesville, IN, featuring Foolish Heart > Victim Or The Crime > Crazy Fingers > Truckin' > Smokestack Lightning > Jam. There’s a nice clam in Crazy Fingers, but the Truckin’ jam and Smokestack Lightning is terrific.

Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.

have you ever heard the phrase "happy as a clam"? I think I know how it came to be. If you look at a nice platter of steamed (or whatever )clams they all look like their smiling. if you know otherwise, let's hear it! ' / /

I admit I haven't listened to the clam yet, but they ALWAYS screwed up the opening to Crazy Fingers after they brought it back in 82, as far as I'm concerned. Jerry could never keep the rhythm during the segueway between the intro and the opening verse. I found it very vexing, but enjoyed the song after they recovered from the opening.
