    Grateful Dead Hour no. 1119

    Week of March 1, 2010

This week we continue with the complete Grateful Dead show of September 27, 1976, and we also hear a couple of wonderful stories from David Nelson, recorded during the KPFA fund-raising marathon on February 20, 2010.

Ever wondered how that October 1987 "Jerry Garcia on Broadway" run came about? This story is guaranteed to make you smile. You'll hear my fellow KPFA host Bonnie Simmons giggling in the background (along with several other spectators) as Nelson tells it.

The story of "Diamond Joe" is also quote wonderful.

And while we're talking about David Nelson, I must state again, unequivocally, that the David Nelson Band is just about the best "jam band" on the planet. If you have a chance to hear them (a rare occurrence, sorry to say, due to most of the band members having other gigs that take precedence), just do it.

    Enjoy!
