    Grateful Dead Hour no. 1592

    Week of March 25, 2019

In 2018 I received a package from Candace Brightman, who was the Grateful Dead's lighting designer for more than 20 years. The box contained a handful of cassettes she had found in a closet, and she thoughtfully sent them along to me in case there was anything worth putting on the radio. Here's one of those tapes - set 1 of December 2, 1981 at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. (Set 2 not included, sorry to say)!

Also: Bob Weir & Wolf Bros, recorded February 28 in Ithaca, New York. "Bombs Away" was the opening track on Bobby's 1978 solo album Heaven Help the Fool, and as he said in his intro, he hadn't played it live in many years. Wolf Bros. recordings are available at nugs.net.

The Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band track is from bonus disc that came with certain purchases of the Electric on the Eel boxed set.
