Week of September 13, 1993
Grateful Dead at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon 8/22/93. I was part of the team that broadcast that weekend’s shows live on KLCC (where cohost Deb Trist still hosts Dead Air Saturdays 7-9pm Pacific Time).
Included is a short between-sets interview with Phil Lesh. Topics include Phil’s new addition to the GD repertoire, Robbie Robertson’s song “Broken Arrow”; his two young sons; his preference for playing shows outdoors in non-stadium situations; and the band’s use of in-ear monitors.
Plus, Bobby “Blue” Bland’s original “Turn On Your Love Light,” two and a half minutes of pure R&B magic that became one of Pigpen’s most powerful numbers. Listen to the one on Live Dead, and then go find a tape of 9/19/70 at the Fillmore East.
Enjoy!!
