Hey Man,
I am here to once again make the case for Summer 1984 music from this band as I have many times before in this forum.
Sure,Garcia was not in the best of health and voice.. The spirit of the band and the intention of playing is clear throughout the summer tour calendar. For me, the band hits their zenith at Starlight theatre, Kansas City on July 3, 1984. If anyone doubts or questions the bands intentions during this period, check out the jam they spin on Cassidy , 7/3/84 as just one example of a passage of music with spirit.
Here in this show at the Blossom on June 29, we can hear Garcia play some Deal right after Hell in a Bucket to signal the closing of set one. But no! He lopes into the funk blues stink of West LA, then Bobby thinks he’s closing it out with Music never Stopped. Nope . Garcia fires up a charging Don’t Ease to complete the set. “We came to play” is what can be inferred in the music regardless of the occasional clam or sloppy moment.Merci beaucoup Monsieur Lemieux
