Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from a four year span later in the Grateful Dead’s performing career, from 1987, 1988 and 1991.
Our first stop is on 6/14/87, the Dead’s last-ever appearance at the Venture County Fairgrounds north of Los Angeles. From the start of the second set, we have Scarlet Begonias> Fire On The Mountain ; Playing In The Band > Terrapin Station.
Next is first-set music from 6/17/88 in Bloomington, MN, the first show of the summer tour of 1988, featuring New Minglewood Blues ; Row Jimmy ; Far From Me ; When I Paint My Masterpiece ; Althea ; Victim Or The Crime. This is the first Grateful Dead performance of Victim Or The Crime, a song Bob had been playing in various live configurations in his solo career for a few years.
Lastly this week we have first set music from 6/16/91 at Giants Stadium, the first night of a two night run in New Jersey. Little Red Rooster ; Candyman ; Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again ; Stagger Lee ; Let It Grow. The second show of this run is understandably famous, as it’s an excellent show, but this first night also contains some terrific music.
Be sure the join us here next week for more music from the vault.
