Week of August 16-22, 2021
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from three distinct periods in the Dead’s history, from 1969, 1978, and 1989.
Our first selection is from the Dead’s final run of shows at San Francisco’s Fillmore Auditorium on 12/19/69, where we have Good Lovin' > Drums > Good Lovin', Cryptical Envelopment> Drums > The Other One > Cryptical Envelopment> Uncle John's Band> Turn On Your Love Light.
A couple of months after the Egypt shows, the Dead hit the road for a tour, and occasionally brought a little taste of the influence of Egypt to their performances, including this second set closing sequence from 11/18/78 in Chicago: Ollin Arageed > Wharf Rat > Sugar Magnolia.
Lastly this week is the start of the second set from the Dead’s final performance at the Forum in Inglewood, CA, where we have Jack Straw > China Cat Sunflower> I Know You Rider, Man Smart (Woman Smarter).
Be sure to stop by next week for more music from the vault. David Lemieux
