Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from a 10 year span in Grateful Dead history, 1973-1983, with a stop in 1979 along the way.
Ur first selection this week is from 9/12/73 at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA. From this show, we have Weather Report Suite, Around and Around, Eyes Of The World>Stella Blue. As the story goes, the Dead had so much fun playing the previous night, and with a night off on 9/12, they announced from the stage on 9/11 they'd play a second show. As it turned out, it was a big load fun as well.
From six years later on 9/6/79, the final night of a three night run at Madison Square Garden, we have the start of the show featuring New Minglewood Blues, Dire Wolf, El Paso, Brown-Eyed Women, It's All Over Now. The Dead had played two shows earlier in the year at MSG, in January, with Keith and Donna, and returned for this three night run with a new keyboard player in tow.
Lastly this week, from the first night of a three night run at the Hult in Eugene on 8/29/83, we have the start of the show: Shakedown Street, New Minglewood Blues, Friend Of The Devil, Hell In A Bucket. There are some sound issues during Hell In A Bucket, with a channel dropping out, but the rest of this sequence, and the whole run, has a lot of good music.
Be sure to stop by next week for more tunes from the vault.
