Week of July 19-25, 2021
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we’ll check out Grateful Dead music from 1973, 1979, and 1980.
Our first stop this week is in El Paso, TX, the Dead’s only performance in this west Texas town, on 11/23/73 featuring the end of the show: Eyes Of The World ; Around And Around > Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad > Casey Jones, Johnny B Goode.
Next is the second set opening sequence of Shakedown Street> Samson And Delilah ; High Time ; Estimated Prophet> Eyes Of The World > Space from 11/29/79 in Cleveland. By this time, Brent had been in the band for more than half a year, and although he fit in from the beginning, he was a fully integrated member of the Dead’s sound by the Fall of 1979.
Lastly this week we have the end of the show from 11/26/80 in Pembroke Pines, FL, including the Dead’s first performance of the Stones’ Satisfaction: Space > Wharf Rat> Around And Around > Good Lovin', Satisfaction.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
