    July 31- August 6, 2017

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we roll from the end of July into early August, past what would have been Jerry’s 75th birthday, hearing some Grateful Dead music from 1983, 1988, and 1991.

Our first stop this week is at the Hult Center in Eugene, OR, where we have the end of the show, wrapping up a terrific three night run at the Hult, with Truckin' > Stella Blue > Around And Around > Good Lovin', US Blues, Satisfaction.

Next is the start of the second set from the opening night of a four night run at Alpine Valley on 6/19/88, featuring Foolish Heart ; Playing In The Band > Uncle John's Band. This was the first Foolish Heart, and a then-rare 4+ night run outside of California, with others including Fillmore East April 1971, Felt Forum December 1971, Academy Of Music March 1972, Lyceum in London May 1972, Radio City 1980, MSG 1987. After this Alpine run, 4+ night runs outside of California became more common, but this was big news in 1988.

Lastly this week s the end of the show from 6/16/91 at Giants Stadium, where we have I Need A Miracle > Black Peter > Throwing Stones > Not Fade Away. I attended the next run of shows after Giants 91, at Pine Knob on 6/19&20/91, and the band was playing at a high level, with loads of band interaction and positive energy on the stage, with Bruce sitting in for the tour.

Be sure to join us next week for more tunes from the vault.

Boston Music Hall 76 - The Tower 76 - The Palladium 77 can be added to that list of pre-87 MSG 4+ runs. Happy Birthday Jerry - hopefully standing on the moon playing to the stars. Miss U.

I saw this show during my first tour, it is my birthday. I remember attending the show by myself as I was away from home. Giants stadium seemed HUGE. I remember tripping and being able to tell what the couple next to me was saying in a good way. I wound up telling them I could hear them and we enjoyed the show together. I believe Little Feat opened and I couldn't not dance. I just had to dance.
