Week of June 14-20, 2021
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where we’re rolling into the start of Summer 2021 with Grateful Dead music from 1973, 1977, and 1984, for distinct eras in the band’s history.
Our first selection is the final show of the second leg of the Fall Tour of 1973, on 11/1/73 in Evanston, IL, featuring Morning Dew > Playing In The Band> Uncle John's Band > Playing In The Band. This is a week before the Dead would play the first of three similar sequences of Playing>UJB>Dew>UJB>Playing on 11/10/73 at Winterland, with the other two on 11/17/73 and 3/23/74.
Next is the bulk of the first set from 11/4/77 in Hamilton, NY at Colgate University, where we have Cassidy; It Must Have Been The Roses ; Sunrise; New Minglewood Blues; Dupree's Diamond Blues ; Let It Grow.
Lastly this week is very interesting and unique second set opening sequence from 11/2/84 at the Berkeley Community Theatre, the fifth night of a six night run, where we have Help On The Way> Slipknot!> Franklin's Tower ; Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance ; Wharf Rat> Gimme Some Lovin'.
