Week of June 2-8, 2025
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1969, 1981, and 1985.
Our first stop this week is on 7/3/69 in Colorado Springs, where we have this batch of classic mid-1969 Dead, featuring some country music, a couple of beauties that would appear on the Dead’s 1970 Workingman’s Dead, and a couple of gems from the Dead’s first album: Green Green Grass Of Home > Slewfoot ; Sittin On Top Of The World ; Morning Dew ; High Time ; Me And My Uncle ; Casey Jones.
Next is the end of the first set from 7/7/81 in Kansas City, where we have five songs in a row from Dead member solo records: Lazy Lightnin' > Supplication ; Bird Song > Looks Like Rain > Deal.
Lastly this week is a famous second set opening sequence from 6/30/85 at Merriweather Post Pavilion: Shakedown Street > Samson And Delilah ; Gimme Some Lovin' > He's Gone > Cryptical Envelopment.
Be sure to stop in next week for more music from the vault.

Merriweather 6-30-85
I was lucky enough to be there. Great show !! After Cryptical came : Drums> Space>The Other One> Stella Blue> 'Round & 'Round> Sugar Magnolia. With an encore of U. S. Blues.
This Shakedown 6.30.85
and this 2nd set ... plus the next night's extravaganza, Blew My Young Mind Open - in the best way.
Forever Grateful!
Kansas City 1981
This particular set was just featured recently as of last years' 30 Dead Days Downloads, and an awesome stretch of tunes it truly is! Which make one wonder,.... Maybe Dave's got his ear on this particular show for a future Picks?
Anyways,.... I just realized this K.C. show is fairly close to the Alpine Valley show, to which we've just received the second set as a bonus disc to the 1980 show in the ~60th~ Big Box. Good stuff!
