Week of June 21-27, 2021
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we’ll once again check out music from three distinct periods in the Grateful Dead’s performing career, 1969, 1971, and 1985.
Our first selection this week is from 11/7/69 at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, where we have this magnificent sequence of Dark Star > Uncle John's Jam> Dark Star> Cryptical Envelopment> Drums> The Other One> Turn On Your Love Light.
From two years later in San Francisco, on 11/6/71 at the Harding Theatre, we have this batch of music from the Dead’s first album, and Workingman’s Dead, plus a couple from the 1972 solo albums, featuring Playing In The Band ; Cumberland Blues; Black Peter ; Beat It On Down The Line ; Deal.
Finally, from 11/5/85 in Worcester, MA, we have the start of the second set, featuring a cool sequence of Shakedown Street ; Man Smart (Woman Smarter) ; Ship Of Fools > Supplication > Playin' Reprise > Don't Need Love.
Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to come back next week for more music from the vault.
