Week of June 23-29, 2025
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1973, 1990, and 1992.
Our first stop is at the famous 6/10/73 show at RFK Stadium, with this incredible batch of songs: Eyes Of The World > Stella Blue; Big River; Here Comes Sunshine.
Next is the end of the show from the middle night of the great three night run at Cal Expo, on 6/9/90, featuring Dear Mr. Fantasy > Hey Jude > All Along The Watchtower > Stella Blue > Turn On Your Lovelight, Black Muddy River.
Lastly this week is the end of the show from 6/12/92 in Albany, with The Last Time > China Doll > Sugar Magnolia, Attics Of My Life.
Be sure to stop in next week for more tunes from the vault.

The Hey Judes
Are they all just the chorus or do the boys ever tackle the whole song? Couldn't have been any harder lyrics than the Dylan tunes.
Cheers
Dear Mr. Fantasy
1st show - guessing you know that the current JOTM is 1984/6/16 Red Rocks opening Set II Shakedown > Playing > Dear Mr. Fantasy and that's the first Mr. Fantasy. Sorta of knew it , close friend was there and has told me how cool it was, but sorta my "first listen" on drive home yesterday and Brent just starts singing it over Jerry opening for China Doll (I think). It seemed wild and weird, but Jerry goes all in when all is said and done and it cooks. Ragged but right. No formal Hey Jude Coda but hints of Hey Jude I think. All they ever sang AFAIK later is the coda. My thought yesterday was that the formal Coda was more or less spontaneous as in already hinted at by their playing. Listening to this again right now and so my reply is subject to edit(s).
Thanks BC
Yeah that Red Rocks '84 was a welcome treat. That initial Dear Mr. Fantasy is growing on me. Some of their 1st trys are a bit rocky. Hmm... what was I doing in June '84 to have missed that one. I'm guessing going after firewood or more likely fishing on Blue Mesa reservoir in Curecanti.
Cheers
Fantasy
A Traffic song that I knew before I was into the Dead. Listening again to 6/16 Jerry may be there from the beginning in that ragged but right vein but it feels to me like a Brent audible. Saw it 7 or so times in shows from '85 to '89. Always sweet. D & Co played it Set I on 7/1/23 and I was like gdamn! As for shows I could've been at, I missed Alpine '89 because I was starting the next phase o' life and headed out to the wild west. No regrets.
