Week of March 9-15, 2026

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1972, 1980, and 1981.

Our first stop is the big jam in 10/2/72 in Springfield, MA, the last show of the first leg of the Fall Tour of 1972, featuring Truckin’> Nobody's Fault But Mine Jam > Drums > Jam> Morning Dew; Sugar Magnolia, Uncle John’s Band, Johnny B. Goode.

Next is the start of the third set on 10/2/80 at the Warfield, with this unique sequence of Drums > Comes A Time > Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance > Terrapin Station > Playing In The Band.

Lastly this week is the start of the second set from 9/30/81 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the tour-opening show for the Europe ’81 tour, featuring Feel Like A Stranger ; Ship Of Fools ; Samson And Delilah ; Never Trust A Woman.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

Thanks for serving up another Fall '72 jam! Nice pre-dawn listen (Monday) before heading out to the Land of Prairie Chickens. (FYI - the uploaded clip ends with Morning Dew).

And now kicked back at the end of the day. The 10/2/80 clip is a delight! Also its apparent position in Set II is deceiving, to me at least, at first glance! The short Drums > Space is actually the beginning of Set II Electric! Wild that it goes into Comes A Time! Pretty darn close to opening Set II with Comes A Time, which is a mind bender! There was something similar couple months earlier that year on the 3rd night of the Uptown run earlier in August (8/21/80). That Uptown show Set II opened with a short Drums into Uncle John's. Andf inally, need to say that Edinburgh Set II clip sounds might fine! All in all a real fun Taper's Section.

The other two clips are kinda meh performances to my ear but interesting nonetheless. It is fun to be surprised by a setlist especially in person.
Cheers
