Nice post about 1993. That years spring tour had plenty of hot shows! I'm sure this tour will have a couple "dandy" releases under it's belt in years to come!

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1986, 1988 and 1993, all from East Coast Spring Tours.

Our first selection is the entire first set of 4/1/86 in Providence, RI, where the Dead played a good set of Shakedown Street ; Estimated Prophet ; Eyes Of The World ; Drums ; Space ; I Need A Miracle ; Black Peter ; Sugar Magnolia.

Next, from Easter Sunder on 4/3/88 in Hartford, CT, we have the entire first set made up of Promised Land > Greatest Story Ever Told ; Althea ; Little Red Rooster ; Cold Rain & Snow ; Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again ; Box Of Rain; Don't Ease Me In. This was the show at which Jerry lost his voice in the second set and threw his microphone to the ground during Black Peter.

Lastly this week is the big second set pre-Drums sequence from 3/28/93 in Albany, featuring six songs and some mighty jamming, particularly during Scarlet>Fire and the jam out of Truckin'. From this excellent show, we have Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain ; Samson And Delilah ; Ship Of Fools ; Wave To The Wind > Truckin'.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

Really? Now you tell me Mr. Jester. Don't know how I'm going to break it to the kids. Much easier with these sparkly jams to ease the pain though... Peace and laughter

Maybe I already posted this last week. Because there was '93 selections then too I think. But 1993 was a great year. Up there with the best of any era. I really believe that. I was just listening to this exact selection last week in the car. Love it. Today I had Giants Stadium, they were going off on "Playing" into the drums. . . it's as out there and fearless as anything they ever did. Garcia was on point. I still can't believe how fast and far he fell from end of '93. He went from razor sharp on the Oct./Nov. 1993 JGB tour to almost incapable of playing guitar by July 1994. Honestly, it's never been publicized or confirmed, but I contend that Garcia suffered a stroke. There's the incident in May 1994 where he had to bail at halftime of a JGB show. I really believe he had a small stroke and that affected his ability with the lyrics and finger dexterity. Check out the spring East Coast tour and then Cal Expo June 8. Something sudden happened. Just my speculation.
