Week of October 4-10, 2021
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have a double dose of Grateful Dead music from 1972, and some 1973.
Our first selection this week is from 9/15/72 in Boston, opening night of the Dead’s first leg of the Fall Tour of 1972, where we have this classic first set batch of 1972 Dead:Promised Land ; Sugaree ; Greatest Story Ever Told ; China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Black Throated Wind ; Tennessee Jed ; El Paso.
Next up is music from a few months later, from the middle night of a three night run at Winterland in San Francisco on 12/11/72, where we have Around And Around; Friend Of The Devil ; Me And My Uncle ; Big Railroad Blues ; Playing In The Band.
Lastly this week is the start of the show from 9/24/73 in Pittsburgh, where we have Promised Land ; Sugaree ; Jack Straw ; They Love Each Other ; Mexicali Blues ; Loose Lucy; Looks Like Rain. I often look at album-sources of songs played, and of these seven songs, only would be recorded on a Grateful Dead studio record, and that would be nine months after this show.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
