    September 05 - September 11, 2016

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where we start our first full week of September with Grateful Dead music from 1969, 1972 and 1978.

Our first stop this week is on 1/24/69 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, we have this classic Anthem Of The Sun sequence of That's It For The Other One>New Potato Caboose. These shows were recorded to 16 Track for the Live/Dead album, widely considered the first live 16 Track recordings in music history. The tracks they knew they were not using for Live/Dead from the Avalon (most of what was recorded) were erased and re-used February 27-March 2 at the Fillmore West, all of which were not recorded, thankfully.

Next is music from the first show of 1972, on 1/2/72 at Winterland, where we have the end of the show, featuring Not Fade Away > Going Down The Road Feeling Bad > Not Fade Away, One More Saturday Night.

Lastly this week is the start of the show from 5/6/78 in Burlington, VT, where we have Sugaree ; New Minglewood Blues] ; Peggy-O ; Beat It On Down The Line ; Loser. His was the second show of the second leg of the Spring Tour of 1978, a tour divided in two with distinct runs from 4/6 to 4/24, and from 5/5 to 5/17.

BNe sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

Personally I just can´t have too much of "Potato", one of the most intriguing pieces of music ever conceived...I love when Phil blasts off those bass-chords! This version was new to me. Thanx!

You've been giving away little tastes of 1/2/72 for years now. It's too good to keep for yourselves! Please make it a Dave's Picks.
