Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we Grateful Dead music from 1972, 1978 and 1989.
Our first stop this week is a quartet of shorter songs from 12/11/72 at Winterland in San Francisco, where we have China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Ride, Box Of Rain ,He's Gone. This is from the tail end of what’s arguably considered the best Grateful Dead year in terms of consistency of great playing, from Europe to Veneta to the three legs of the Fall Tour to these shows at home, and a tremendious New Year’s Eve show to end the year.
Next is the first set from 2/1/78, the final night of a three night stand in Chicago, where we have this great batch of Dead music: Jack Straw ; Friend Of The Devil ; Mama Tried > Me And My Uncle ; Ramble On Rose ; Cassidy, Sugaree.
Lastly this week is the first set of the first show of another great year in Dead history, where we have this terrific batch of music from 2/5/89 at the henry J. Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland, where we have Touch Of Grey ; Feel Like A Stranger > Franklin's Tower ; Little Red Rooster ; Althea ; We Can Run ; Desolation Row ; Don't Ease Me In. This was also the last-ever run of shows at the Kaiser.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
