Rec'd yesterday thanks !Nice Yellow vinyl with an Orange label and the Tony Millionaire art is wonderful. This 2nd release in this series did not come with the digital download as the 1st single. Why didn't it ?

When can we get the digital download?

Like it, but I too want to know about the digital download. (the yellow vinyl reminds me of 78 RPM kids records I used to have)

As a lover of vinyl I really like the idea of this series. The artwork on the other hand leaves much to be desired. There is no feel of the time with it. I would have much preferred something time appropriate even if they used a European picture sleeve of the original release

Just got Golden Road/Cream Puff. Nice packaging, but if we're trying to recreate the original singles why are we using a stereo mix? Stereo didn't really come into fore for singles until the end of the decade. The original single was in mono. They're doing a fine job with the labels. Colored vinyl I could take or leave. I appreciate the art, but we should be seeing the original picture sleeves whenever they existed. Even if they're just an insert or something. Hope they do Truckin' right. The single mix in mono is significantly different from the album version. And it would be a hoot to see the original Dark Star picture sleeve.

Good point on stereo. In addition I've never been a fan of colored vinyl. Add those to the covers ( European singles and Japanese had picture sleeves) and it's sort of like Ted Turner when he colorized black and white movies "young people don't like b&w". What's the point

I am no techie, but i think they are set in using "the closest thing possible to original source and then adding all the digital bells and whistles and then use a play on words to market these. I would be interested to see insert as well, I have a few singles from USA & Europe. None from Japan though. To be honest I am buying these for cover art. The music I have heard a bunch of times. Digital download, I will never access. So the more add-ons , the more it peaks my interest. Some sort of Bonus 7 inch would have really put this release in higher priority with fans !!!!! Even studio out-take or alternate recording, maybe even a couple live cuts. I think just adding the foil stamp was a big step though. Maybe next year , get bonus 7 inch with subscription

are you saying the recording on the 45 is the same recording as the album?

i think digital is the way they do things currently. Take an original recording, then its transfered to a software and then its digitized. there is a mono mix of Grateful Dead debut album, which maybe a closer reflection to the original singles rhino has been slowly adding GD vinyl releases , almost always after cd format is issued. i highly doubt they would make a special mix for each format. Very few offerings are exclusive to vinyl adding vinyl is big money for them. cornell cd , $25 dollars, vinyl $125 , vinly production cost probably slightly higher than cd plus the cost of larger packaging. but to the extent of $100 difference ?

Just received the second 45 in the series. I see that you are continuning to provide new highs in the low standard of art for the covers! The cover is utterly awful - even worse than the last! There is no relationship between the cover and the music or the times etc.PLEASE just send the 45's in plain white covers, or use 60's psychedelic-type artwork! The covers seriousy deteract from the overall enjoyment of the music and the aretfact!!

Errrr...do you actually know the lyrics to the 4 songs on the two 45s? Here's excerpts from all 4 songs. I'll let you guess which songs they pertain to. I can't speak for Mike but it's possible his complaint was similar to mine. When I originally ordered the vinyl series I was expecting original mixes and contemporary art. These are neither. The artwork is modern and #2 is in stereo which the original is not. As far as what I at least thought would be put out would have been time period specific. It wouldn't have been hard to do as most if not all European and Japanese had picture sleeves. As far as the original mixes if they aren't on tape use the best available vinyl originals. I could be wrong but I think as opposed to the resurrection of lps, singles are mostly the domain of old timers. As witnessed on the GSTL page I have numerous times expressed my appreciation for the work that those people who work so hard and AREN'T getting rich on all the wonderful releases they have offered us. And taken heat from some who need to denigrate those who differ from their opinion ( not saying that is what you have done in your current post). For me it isn't what I expected but that's OK you can't please everyone all the time. I'll just stick with my original 45's and happily keep buying Dave's picks and box sets and rsd.Their record, yeah pun intended, is still better than any other I can think of. Oh yeah hey Dave when are you putting out the Greek Box lol

I thought I would post here since there has been some questions in and around this recently. On tales from the golden road a few weeks ago they were speaking with one of the producers in charge of these releases. He said all vinyl is mastered from digital these days, and what they do for the dead releases is master from the HD recordings they make, the 192kHz/24bit ones.

Just got the email allowing me to download this single!

Can't seem to access the link in the email to download. McAfee blocks the site in my browser. Any way to get around this?

BS. Finally received the digital download and I can A/B versus the newly remastered album cut. It is the exact same for both songs. Shouldn't the single edits be mono, or at least a different mix for Golden Road? Sorely disappointed that the powers that be at dead.net cannot live up to their word. Thanks for selling me a picture sleeve

Glad you mentioned it. That's something that's been bugging me for years. Using a digital master for a vinyl release completely defeats the purpose. I'll bet going full analog for vinyl releases would be considerably more expensive, and more time consuming as well. Using a digital master on vinyl just makes it 'lossy', to my mind anyway. The folks that have (stubbornly) stood by vinyl seem to have turned things around and it seems to be making a comeback. I'm glad, but I'll still be buying original vinyl, stuff that was pressed in the 90s and before. Buying new vinyl, at this moment, is just buying vinyl for the sake of having vinyl. The 'warmth' that everybody is getting all nostalgic about is just not there. Going full analog will fix that problem, but I don't think anyone is gonna do that. I won't be buying any new vinyl until full analog is restored. But it won't.

this is NOT the 45 version of this song. both sides are STEREO not MONO. the original 45 had overdubed percussion.rewriting history is not kool.
