Everything you attempt to sell us is self-proclaimed, highly collectible crap because you make a limited number of copies and give each piece it's own number. Beyond that, what is really "highly collectible" about owning more and more worthless crap?

I find this Dark Star much easier to handle than the one they did that afternoon at the Creamery.Nah, forget that- I'll take the one from the Creamery any day. Now, Gary, chill out- first, you're just wrong- not everything from Dead.net is limited edition, and a lot of what is sells slowly, so it's hardly a big deal. Second, a lot of the limited edition focus is due to the challenges of selling this kind of stuff in today's consumer environment. Third, one person's crap is another's treasure, or at least collectible- and if you're on this site and on these particular item pages, you either have an interest in at least some of this 'crap' or you're just here to troll. Finally, if you want to make a bigger point about the ills of consumer culture, you kinda blew it with your blunt, wide-net dismissal of it- you might have come off as just a wee bit curmudgeonly...

They are celebrating important anniversaries of key albums and singles.. Some of these albums are of historical significance.. What do you expect from a record company.. to do nothing? Of course not... Besides.. I feel no pressure to buy these. They are just studio singles, which I really never listen to unless they are on the radio. Still.. I think it's interesting if this is your thing. They hired artists and are creating a bit of hoopla on the anniversary dates. So if you like Anthem of the Sun a lot then cool.. you can get the single of Born Cross Eyed. Lasts longer than flowers and costs less too. Nothing wrong with this and nothing wrong with punting on it either. Better to do then to do nothing.

Never can decide if I prefer the single mix of Born Cross-Eyed, with the live feedback outro...or the Anthem vinyl remix with the big chord at the end. I know Phil gushes over the original Anthem mix ~ a "work of art," "mixed for the hallucinations" and reinstated for all cd releases ~ but this song, at least, suffers for the hallucinations. Ooo...how about a 5.1 mix?

I expect a re-release of anthem next year, with the re-mix version tacked on, as well as a live show from the era... Actually can't wait to buy that

Hoping that's true. And hope they choose one of the Quick 'n Dead Pacific Northwest shows with prominent Pig organ...and Clementine. Would definitely be cool if they included the Cross-Eyed LP remix ~ even as a hidden track, like the single mix on the previous remaster. Has anyone played these reissue GD singles, and can comment on the quality? My Hendrix collector's Valleys of Neptune 45 skipped all over the place on first listen :(

yes i have played them . the first single was played about 35x now . sound excellent, cover ,useless value A+++. as for golden road, they DID NOT use the original 45 mix. that 45 was in MONO and had a drum overdub on the song golden road. what they did was use the STEREO versons that are on the s/t first lp. sound ,excellent, cover, useless, value , none.

The Mono version of the 1st LP is the better mix, in my opinion; much more powerful.

Anthem 50th- Outpost, I hear you! I have an insane love for that album- I mean, Anthem of the Sun... it's a phenomenon... 'mix(ed) for the hallucinations' as Garcia put it. One of my top ten all-time favorite albums. Insanely great recording, and even the album art and name, everything about it is just out of this world- really the first true Dead album, the Ur album for them. I've often thought, 'Gosh, wouldn't that be great to play at my funeral?' But I'm sure it ain't gonna happen, and just as well, it's probably not what you'd call a 'popularly accessible' sound, huh? It's simply its own absolutely perfectly offbeat ear-flavor of licorice. Anyway, first mix, the later mix, love 'em both- such a quantum leap forward from the first album. I wish that the Dead had composed more albums like this, but don't get me wrong- I'm grateful for so much of the other paths they took in the studio. But Anthem just puts me in a space all its own. Antonjo, a 5.1 mix of Anthem as a whole- could be mind-blowing. Unlikely to see it, but sign me up if it happens!

I watched it on TV August 22,1967. I was 13 and it made a major impression on me. That's when I can say definitively when I first heard of and saw (albeit on TV) the Dead. Next real exposure was a year later when my brother Rick brought Anthem of the Sun home. Then my first four Dead shows in 1970, all at the Fillmore East and one could say the dye (tie dye) was set. There is no turning back. Anthem is still one of my top five all time favorite albums, of any band or music.

Mine shipped yesterday. Hopefully it'll be here next week. Also, I was just looking at a comprehensive list of all of the GD singles, and I see there was a 45 released with Viola Lee on both sides, but its being skipped on this go-round? List goes: 1. Don't Ease Me In/ Stealin' ('66) 2. Golden Road/ Cream Puff ('67) 3. Viola Lee p.1/ Viola Lee p.2 ('67) 4. Dark Star/ Born Cross-eyed ('68) 5. Dupree's Diamond Blues/ Cosmis Charlie ('69) etc. Anyone know why they're skipping the Viola 45? JW since they stated these would be released in order...

Ok - they really cut corners on this one. No paper inner sleeve. Shrink wrap so tight it warped the record and creased the cover. Audible surface noise on Dark Star. Born Cross Eyed skips every time it hits the warp. Wondering if these things are returnable. Are they? Dead.net doesn't seem to want to guarantee I'll get another if I send it back. And I have to pay for the return!!!!! This was the one single I wanted out of the whole bunch. Given the track record, I won't be re-upping.

I think they really misjudged the market on the 45 releases. The people,I believe, who wanted these were people like me who wanted pristine originals or younger heads who are part of the resurgence of vinyl movement who also wanted pristine originals. I realize that in the US picture sleeves were unusual Dark Star being the biggest exception but European and Japanese releases did have them. Even a release that didn't have one could've had a period appropriate new design. Add to that the fact that some aren't even the same issue...stereo etc. They have done so well over the years with releases it's a shame they missed the boat on this

Agree with your comments. Being a fan of 45's, I gravitate to them for the unique mixes. I was hoping this series would mimic the original releases. Instead we get titles only pressed on 7 inch. The stereo mix of Golden Road is inexcusable. The presentation leaves a little to be desired. Sleeves are so big they won't fit into standard '45 plastic covers. I would have prefered paper sleeves or period appropriate sleeves on all of these. A golden opportunity to do something right has gone horribly wrong. What would the public think if American Beauty was released with a different cover and digital remix? 45's deserve the same treatment. And the quality of the record!!! Stealin' had the label peeling off. Dark Star was horribly warped due to the too tight shrink wrap. How hard can it be to press a '45. I have 1600 of them and Dark Star is the only one I have to increase the weight to 2 grams in order for it to play.

they really missed the point on these releases. first of the golden road 45 is not MONO but the lp version in STEREO. as for the covers they should have a photo of the band from the time period not this useless artwork. the singles should of also had a paper sleeve not just he 45 put in to a cardboard one. also my 2nd copy of dark star did not arrive today.can i or will i get any responce toward this problem?

I agree about the paper sleeve, they did serve an important function way-back-then. However, you did get a vinyl 45 in 2017, didn't you? How cool is that? As far as contacting GD customer service goes. Why not? Most customer service calls do suck but their hold music always makes me sorry when it's my turn! I don't get your thinking about period band pics instead of psychedelic artwork being included. Isn't that pretty much what The Dead, and every other recording artist has always done? There's been a plethora of band pictures produced, and no doubt, many more to come. Hang in there Zally; Terrapin Nation wasn't built in a day! It's your turn of phrase, "Useless Artwork" that I'm struggling with. Shouldn't, wouldn't, or at least, couldn't those words used together be considered an oxymoron?

Is anyone else having difficulty with the downloads for the singles series? The shipment confirmation emails for the discs are supposed to have links for downloading the mp3 versions but for whatever reason the emails that I have received so far do not. I have had to contact customer support for each of the 3 volumes, and they eventually send a follow-up email with the link, but this should be automatic?? Anyone else having issues with this, or is it just me :>)Jim

So far I have enjoyed the singles, but I have one suggestion for the folks who are doing the disc mastering- the lead-in grooves are extremely narrow! There is plenty of dead space at the end of the tracks to allow for a little more room on the lead-in. The narrowness of the lead-in coupled with the colored vinyl makes it a difficult for those of us with manual tables (or at least for me :>) to cue them accurately. Nothing like an expensive stylus skating off the vinyl surface to ruin your day! Jim

yes they did ,they used sleeves that were issued worldwide and a few u.s. sleeves. as with the dead only a few 45s had tracks that were exclusive to the 45. the dead only have 7 different tracks to use. scorpio 45, 2 songsgolden road, deadnet used the stereo lp version instead of the unique 45 mix dark star ,born crosseyed truckin , with different guitar solo and osamau . the doors had 2, who scared you and dont go no furthur. both of those are on deluxe editions cds so there is NO need for this doors box set.where is the 50th aniversary edition of strange days? mono, stereo and live= 3 cd set. nowhere to be found.a missed chance.

I'm still holding out hope for Strange Days which was released 9/25/67. Their first album was released 1/4/67 and the 3 cd deluxe Japanese version wasn't released until May 24th 2017 and the 3 cd plus lp deluxe American version was released in March. It would be great it they release it in time for the holiday season. Hoping for an email from cdjapan soon so I can preorder.

Hi all, received my copy in decent packaging to the UK but upon opening the record is concavely warped. The dark star side (down warped) just about plays but the other side (inner warped) doesn't. I think it was caused by the extra tight shrink-wrap (it was really difficult to cut open along the opening due to tightness). Wonders if anyone else had the same issue or I'm a one off? Thanks in advance.
