Brent & Jerry, Jerry & Brent. If you don't know what I'm spouting you might want to check back. I know there are a lot of people out there that don't appreciate Brent. Well, I got news for you, Brent gave Jerry what he needed. If you were lucky enough to see The Band from 88 to 90 you should know what I mean and if you don't you were too high or you haven't seen the videos'. Brent rocked Jerry and Jerry rocked Brent. They had a connection that Bobby wished he had with JG. I watch the videos' and it gives me chills to see how happy Jerry is playing with someone as talented as Mydland. Yes, he is similar when playing with Hornesby, but Brent was there for over 10 years and JG loved him. As much as I love 77 and 73 my favorite thing to see is JG smile and look at Brent and jam on.

Hey Pocky Way/ Women are Smarter If you don't know, don't bother. These two songs, on a good night really show how much Brent and Jerry had a major connection. Brent would just fuel Jerry's fire and vice verse. It gives me chills to see Jerry so happy and animated. By the way, I have friends that hate Brent's voice, but I feel he is incredibly under appreciated. I love his voice, it seems to melt beautifully with Bob and JG. Regardless of your views on the vocals, the only player as good or better, in my opinion would be Hornesby. JG and Brent would just start a back and forth that Bob seemed oblivious to. Watch the DVD's if you don't believe. Peace, Kenton

It's funny. In the 60s it was the John Birchers who wrote stuff like this; Illuminati, the Rothschilds; one world government; etc., etc., etc. I guess it's true that paranoia knows no bounds! "I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in."

Have Bobby + Mickey Joined the Illuminati?
It's really not my intent to create negative vibes, but here's something all Deadheadsneed to know about: http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2004/07/292888.shtml I'm only going to post this once and then will leave this forum as I'm sure I'll be censored anyhow. If you don't know what the Bohemian Grove is, go to YouTube and search it. What you need to know is that your beloved Bobby + Mickey actually party with the most corrupt and evil legal criminals of the world - George Bush, Dick Cheney, Henry Kissinger, and the list goes on. The folks known as the Illuminati who are responsible for orchestrating the wars and economic destruction happening to America and attack on the US Constitution that could bring martial law and the end of our inalienable freedoms according to the law. Their aim is world domination, economic exploitation and enslavement of the world and according to many reports, a desire to bring about the extinction of about 90% of the population. Basically the elite evil-doers of this world. I think Deadheads have a right to know why they are there. I had hoped to give this some benefit of the doubt and hope that maybe they were trying to use their personal clout to affect positive change and to try to reason with these folks. But from the many reports I'm seeing it sure doesn't look that way. I found this to be very shocking and felt an obligation to share it with the Deadhead community. I can find no justification for this. People like Bobby and Mickey who are supposed to be role models and icons of peace and love and enlightenment should for damn sure have enough personal integrity and moral values to refuse invites like this and to make a positive statement. This is the equivalent of partying with the Third Reich. I will say no more of it and I will now leave this forum. But I believe I deserve the chance to speak my piece. The bottles stand as empy as they were filled before. Time there was a plenty and from that cup no more. Though I could not caution all, I still might warn a few - Don't lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools. Save Mother Earth. Resist the New World Order.

    What the !@@#$
Holy shit I am getting old. Just saw a picture of Bobby the other day. What the !@#$. Wow. Holy shit!!!!!! But then again when I look at my own photo from 10 years ago I think the same thing. Bobby keep chugging onward and I hope that you play in Dubai or somewhere in Asia so that I can come see ya again. !@#$ set some dates in Europe. As SPAC is in Hells Angels country, I will never forget at a show in 95 there was this Hells Angels chick melting on stage in front of bobby and I recall trying to figure out what the hell she was doing and etc etc. Then we decided to take a break from that action as "Black Bird" and in fact Bobby shows were more relaxed etc so we took our show back to the trees (if anyone has ever been to SPAC you know what I am talking about) and had a session. Then another Hells Angel walked up to us (us being my good friend and his girl friend and my girl friend (sisters) and myself. Have lost contact with all a long time ago.) and asked me to keep an eye out for him then proceeded to do something shady and I just could not figure out what he was doing. I had my ideas of course. Well I could not really figure out what I was doing at the time either, but I had my ideas of course. So then he came back to us and said "this has never happened to you before and will never happen to you again," and then dropped an 8 ball in the corner pocket! That was a long night I will tell ya. It was not a night in a pink Cadillac with a White Duck but it was amusing. He was right, never happened again!!!!

Weir at upcoming Stop the Spray benefit
http://www.stopthespraymarin.org/ Suffice it to say that the populace of the Bay Area is increasingly upset about the state's plans to spray them Apocalypse Now style, for years and years, with inhalable microscopic plastic pellets of pheromones to upset the sex lives of the LIght Brown Apple Moth, not to mention other more overtly toxic stuff. Apparently when they sprayed Monterey and Santa Cruz counties last year, people got sick, animals died, etc. Environmental impact report? What environmental impact report? Just about every city and county in the area has passed a resolution opposing this, and there are numerous bills pending in the legislature. However, the feds are taking the position that if Californians won't spray themselves the feds will spray 'em. It's all about... TRADE. The Benjamins. Etc. Which to my mind is serious thuggery, but what a surprise. Anyway, I am pleased to see there's an upcoming benefit concert for the anit-spraying forces in Sausalito with Bobby, Maria Muldaur, Peter Coyote hosting, and who knows who else, so, heads up. June 8!

iGrateful, I received and listened to a 24 bit digital version of Blue Mountain. When I first heard the CD version I was troubled by the excessive echo and reverb esp. in the first 4 tracks as played through my equipment. Well the effect is still there on the HD release. The music is consistent with a very polished sound. It is not a cowboy nor a country album by any means. It is pure Bobby, a very somber Bobby reflecting and looking ahead to the inevitable. A very mainstream Americana sounding album. The opening song Only a River is easily accessible, Gonesville sounds like it belongs on country radio. Time will tell if any of these tracks turn into a jam oriented show stopper in concert as Looks Like Rain, Playin' or Two Djinn have become. When the idea of a cowboy album was announced last year, I anticipated an intimate acoustic effort ala Springsteen's Nebraska, but aside from the song Ki Yi Bossie, it is far from that. I will likely throw a rip of it in my car but don't see it getting much play time. Don't get me wrong, It's not bad at all, but with Clapton having released a concert with JJ Cale yesterday and Van Morrison's new release, I prefer listening to music that puts a smile on my face. Blue Mountain left me puzzled and pensive. With that said, I am planning on Bobby's Ryman show provided promised tickets materialize. I'm confident hearing some of these tunes done live will make them vibrant. It's just my opinion, your mileage may vary. SXM has been running an interview with Bob Weir and Josh Kaufman re. the new album on the Buddy and Jim Show featured on Outlaw Country. Bob plays the title track and Ki Yi Bossie live and lends some light on the history of the recording. Some interesting old country tunes by Sons of the Pioneers, Buck Owens and Billy Walker are interspersed throughout the hour, those songs are timeless and a pleasure to hear. The best part of the show in my opinion is Bob speaking of his respect and admiration for jazz greats McCoy Tyner and John Coltrane and patterning his rhythm guitar playing after those artists. If you have 90 minutes to kill it's not a bad listen.

I spent a week on the coast around Santa Cruz and finished off with Bob Weir and his "The National" cohorts at the Fox Theater in Oakland this past Saturday night. The music was clearer and more distinct than on the album, as commented on earlier. I had just gotten the CD when I arrived home Friday night, but I listened to it twice on the way in. I like "Only A River", but I thought "Gonesville" was the winner live. The band clearly had rehearsed the material, and they appeared to be in synch and enjoying themselves pretty well, although Bob did not introduce the band members except as, " . . . my little buddies here." I believe he started the first set with Bob Dylan's, "When I Paint My Masterpiece". Two or three acoustic songs, and then the band came out. Bob Switched to a Stratocaster in the second set for some of the songs, did "Cassidy", "Big River", and "Peggy-O", among others. Bob waved the band on to continue toward the end and played a little lead while he was at it, too. The second set turned rapidly into a sort of parlor-version Grateful Dead set, and the visual graphics were pastel rather than the stronger colors of the recent Dead and Company shows last summer. The bleak wilderness images were particularly intriguing, and were very reminiscent of my trip last year to northeastern Wyoming, up beyond Independence Rock. There were some subliminals in the cloud images, like a question mark, a skull, and a crow's beak and knowing eye. Stranger still since I photographed a similar cloud image around May of '15 prior to the Fare Thee Well shows. It didn't fit in then, but it sure made sense Saturday night. The hometown crowd was very enthusiastic, and with a mere 8-show tour ahead, this was one of those under-the-radar gigs that was probably not to be missed. Having seen Billy Bob Thornton and his band, The Boxmasters recently, I would say that Blue Mountain falls into that same category of good Americana road music for passing the time on the long haul, or indoors on a misty day. It would certainly go well with bucking a stiff headwind in Kansas heading upgrade to eastern Colorado around this time of year. Get behind a Greyhound bus out of Topeka - you'll save some gas!
