When the ride begins in '65 at a pizza parlor in the South Bay under another moniker, who would have imagined? When "Who Are You? Where Are You? How Are You?" became "Won't you come with me?" and, ultimately, "Where does the time go?," who would have thought? 60 years on, we're celebrating the Grateful Dead's Diamond Era. Here we go back to the beginning, to the original "Follow," and uncover the wonders of getting on the bus all over again.
ENJOYING THE RIDE is a sweeping 60-CD collection that maps an epic cross-country road trip along the “Heady Highway” with stops at storied venues where the music, the moment, and the magic of the Dead reliably converged. Spanning 25 years of legendary live performances, this expansive compendium spotlights defining shows from 1969 to 1994 at 20 venues that consistently inspired the band to new heights.
With the exception of a few tracks from earlier releases, virtually all of the music on ENJOYING THE RIDE is previously unreleased, with more than 450 tracks and over 60 hours of music. Of the 20 shows in the collection, 17 are presented in full, with some featuring additional material from the same venue. The remaining three — Fillmore West, Fillmore East, and Boston Music Hall — are curated from multiple performances at each venue, capturing key moments on those legendary stages.
These performances were originally recorded by Owsley “Bear” Stanley, Betty Cantor-Jackson, Kidd Candelario, Dan Healy, and John Cutler. David Glasser and Jeffrey Norman restored and mastered the performances, with select ones using Plangent Processes tape restoration and speed correction for optimal sound quality.
It's all housed in a custom keepsake box inspired by the experience of traveling from city to city to see the Dead at legendary venues across America. Inside, a beautifully detailed tour guide features liner notes by Jesse Jarnow (author and co-host of the Good Ol’ Grateful Deadcast) and a producer’s note from Lemieux, an essay by the Owsley Stanley Foundation, and more. The set is richly illustrated with photos, including many taken at the shows featured in the collection.
Due May 30th, this one is limited to 6,000 individually numbered copies and exclusive to Dead.net. We invite you to take this not-so-little piece of the road home.

Anniversary shows 7/13 & 14/85. Ventura
40 years ago I was down at the Ventura County Fairgrounds for a wild weekend with the Good old grateful Dead. Boy, those weekends used to take it out of me. Fun times!! Lets get that Ventura Box Set released, lots of great music there.
Box Help
Sorry hate to ask. But I received my box missing a show and customer service has gone silent. Is there any insiders here or someone else to contact to try and get this right. Thanks.
KRIYAS, CONTACT MARYE
Contact her with a PM and explain the problem, she will get it straight.

Great story
I love synchronicity stuff
Compton 1990....
....saw a dude get hauled away by the reservation police for possessing pot smoke in his lungs.
They played Bertha and I immediately thought of him. But, yeah.
Otherwise, good shows.

Anniversary show 7/13/76 Orpheum Theatre
49 years and one day ago, I was up in S.F at the tiny Orpheum Theatre for a killer of a show with the Good old Grateful Dead. The Dead sounded fantastic in 1976. The Orpheum was a small theatre and held less then 2000 people. This show would make a great release.

Easter Egg
Does anyone have any insight regarding the train sound effect with stop announcer on the end of disc 1 8/20/83 Palo Alto?

Sent you a PM..
Uncle Trip
Had to smile this morning when I saw you use the expression "a real pisser".
My father would say that. I think it's a dead expression, kids probably don't know it.
My son recently got a puppy that's puppy crazy. Old man would say, "that's dogs a pisser".
Gone are the days......
Alpine Valley tickets
I grew up in suburban Milwaukee and then Madison in the late 1980s and Alpine Valley was a regular venue. I found it was impossible to get pavilion seats, but lawn tickets could be procured from Ticketron. I may have already told this story over the years, but it is indicative of the challenge.
My first time trying for pavilion seats was Clapton on the Crossroads tour 1988. I went to the West Town Mall (Madison) at dawn and was second in line behind an old friend from my Milwaukee days, Jonny U. Sears opens the doors early for us to get to the Ticketron window and despite being #1 and #2 in line, we did not get pavilion seats. Ended up riding and pre-partying with Jonny U. for that Clapton show-- great show, by the way, with Mark Knofler on guitar.
One year later, I go to the same location at the same time and am second in line again to Jonny U. for Grateful Dead Alpine 89. Same scenario-- sold out pavilion, but we both got lawn. We tried for the Rolling Stones Steel Wheels tour, but there was a solid line for those tickets, so no chance for pavilion for that, just happy to be in the house.
I never even tried for pavilion seats again at Alpine, wasn't worth my time and effort. Until recently, that is. Crazy thing is that it is easier to get pavilion seats now-- I got pavilion a couple times for Dead and Co.
What's going on ?
"Come on in take off your skin, rattle around in your bones!!!"
edit: 100 pts. if anyone can guess where that quote is from?
edit 2: I got the quote form a TV sitcom?
Gonzo 4 Reel Gone!
I sure wish I had been hip to the Reel Gone Music scene before all the old 'Picks & Trips' got real gone again. But anyways,.... I got a few good ones still and there are a handful left in the store not sold out! Also I got the final four shows from the Big Box on my computer last week so all is complete now, and still thrilled to be... Enjoying The Ride.
What's Going On
That could be William Burroughs contribution to the Tom Waits album "Black Rider". Great stuff. I saw it performed in London once, with Marianne Faithful compering.
Anniversary show 7/15/84 Greek Theatre
41 years ago it was Sunday at the Greek with the Good old Grateful Dead, Big Fun.
Complete Ventura Box Set
Hey Dave, can we please have a complete Ventura Box Set. I used to have a blast down there.
@fourwindsblow
Sounds like something Barney Fife would say.
Sly and the family stone : The First Family....
....was in the mail today. Sounds awesome.
If High Moon records advertised the 24-page booklet, I must have skimmed over in.
Nice bonus.
M.A.S.H.
Drunken Hawkeye gem. I can picture them in the Swamp carrying on and Margaret is carousing there too being very entertained by the drunkards (and dissing a not drunk Frank?). No idea which episode.
But I like Daverock's guess better.
Cheers
M.A.S.H.
The episdoe is where Henry leaves for Tokyo for a conference and has to leave Frank in charge and the first thing Frank does is ban alcohol....the maniacs ignore it and Margaret gets bombed with them...after Frank leaves the tent in a huff Margaret asks "who was that?" One of my fave scenes

I refer to it a lot - its a great resource.
Scrolling through blows my mind seeing how much has been released.
Thats a lot of shows....
....God bless the tapers.
Odd thing about MASH

God bless the tapers indeed

Odd thing about MASH
I don't know when it was made, but there was a lot of that going on in the 70's. In my first office job, "the lads" had a few pints at lunch time every day, and got hammered on Friday. Mind you, they weren't experts at anything. Apart from drinking.
Whoops - double post !
So last Dead 5/25/72 on vinyl. Great show overshadowed by one of the best of all time the following night.
Potato Mash
I would imagine when the wounded came in you would sober up mighty fast?

Back when bathrobes were cool.
Time for '5 O'Clock Charlie', yet?
(a phrase I still throw out from time to time)
Off Topic?
Well, since we are free form here and all,......
....This is about the "United States of Dead" T-Shirt series, and where they are displayed on the web site.
My gripe....
....The shirt for New Mexico never made it to the web page section where you can view all the past designs. I think it was because it sold out fast and was an oddly timed to release when they had the web page make over issues.
Florida is up for sale now and looks pretty cool too. Still can hardly believe I nabbed one for my state, it was released during an odd summer day on Thursday and was gone by the end of the day. Good thing I check this web site in the morn!
Insider info?
Yeah, someone had asked a few days back now about that weird rambling on the mic like some train station conductor. It was immediately after the first set from the Frost 1983 show maybe said by some roadie? What is the reference there all about anyways?
"The K-E-R-T express..." ??? That sounds like a west coast radio station.
ETR Book
Man, these books keep getting smaller. The font size is tiny. Hard for an eye sight challenged guy like me to read.
I prefer the larger books like the one from E72 or even some standard size font from the regular size books.
Will be listening to the Winterland 77 show next. Have a copy of this show from the past. Will be interesting to hear how this cleaned up version compares.
Bathrobes are still cool....
....I wear mine on week-ends religiously.
Deadvikes
Got an email from Bell’s, Octoberfest release 8/1.
Time for me to stock up on Oberon before it’s gone.
December 27, 1989 ; Oakland
The mix on this pops! I mean, wow. Every note articulated with crystal clarity.
And then I noticed it was a John Cutler recording. Must have been separate from inhouse because I only see Healy credited for what's on archive. No radio broadcasts in those, so possibly for a live album? Film? Regardless, how great that's its finally being heard by everyone.
I still dig slippers. Religiously from November through March.
12-27-89
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality.
Listened to 7-15-89 last night. Sound quality not as good as 12/27.
I’m still Enjoying The Ride though.
3-20-77 playing now.
DaP Comment
Noticed the other day that the DaP 2015 releases have the 50th Logo on the spine instead of the usual S&R. Love it, no such luck on the 60th year releases. Would have been a nice detail
09 15 1982
Also sounds great!
But I'm deep enough into the evening where it all does.

Anniversary show 7/17/82 Ventura
43 years ago, I was down at the Ventura County Fairgrounds for a knockout show with the Good old Grateful Dead. The first year the Dead played in Ventura and it was one he'll of a party! Big Fun!
Alpine Valley
36 years ago today, I was at Alpine Valley for three days of music and joy, (and a lot of rain), would love an Alpine Valley box set similar to the MSG box,
43 years ago today
I was at my first show

One of the best experiences of my life
Ventura 7/18/82
There's a great review of this show that makes up the first chapter of Blair Jackson's excellent "The Music Never Stopped." I can still remember reading it on the train coming back from Manchester to Oldham. The contrast between what I was reading and where I was reading it was vast indeed.
At the back of the book, there is a review of tapes of shows that he regarded as the best ones available. It was the first time I became aware that tapes had been made of shows. I hadn't a clue how to get hold of any, and wondered what they sounded like. Now most of them have come out on cd. And again on vinyl. I would never have guessed then, back in 82/83 just how many live recordings of shows I would eventually have.
And it's not over yet!
Crazy Fingers Dust Off After 7 Years
Amazing to have seen that ... Surely quite a cool scene there (my wife hails from nearby)
While not great sounding, this cassette got a lot of play for me in the mid-late 80s.
Happy Anniversaries
Especially PF's 1st show!
Cheers
Shoreline 1991
I had to take a minute to mention this show from the Box and specifically the song couplet of Bob & Jerry covering "C.C. Rider" >>and>> "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, & A Train to Cry" as a most excellent pairing! Jerry comes in so fast off Bobby's last vocal you almost think for a split second it's another verse from the same song, the musical instrumentation doesn't skip one beat at all.
I don't know if they did this song combo much for this is the first time I've heard it, and I gotta say it was soooooooooo smooooooth! Part of a KILLER first set ending with that BIG Deal.

I appear to have a shipping notice. The email isn’t fully readable but it has a tracking number. DHL are notified of its existence. Let’s see how long before it starts moving.
Thanks
