When the ride begins in '65 at a pizza parlor in the South Bay under another moniker, who would have imagined? When "Who Are You? Where Are You? How Are You?" became "Won't you come with me?" and, ultimately, "Where does the time go?," who would have thought? 60 years on, we're celebrating the Grateful Dead's Diamond Era. Here we go back to the beginning, to the original "Follow," and uncover the wonders of getting on the bus all over again.

ENJOYING THE RIDE is a sweeping 60-CD collection that maps an epic cross-country road trip along the “Heady Highway” with stops at storied venues where the music, the moment, and the magic of the Dead reliably converged. Spanning 25 years of legendary live performances, this expansive compendium spotlights defining shows from 1969 to 1994 at 20 venues that consistently inspired the band to new heights.

With the exception of a few tracks from earlier releases, virtually all of the music on ENJOYING THE RIDE is previously unreleased, with more than 450 tracks and over 60 hours of music. Of the 20 shows in the collection, 17 are presented in full, with some featuring additional material from the same venue. The remaining three — Fillmore West, Fillmore East, and Boston Music Hall — are curated from multiple performances at each venue, capturing key moments on those legendary stages.

These performances were originally recorded by Owsley “Bear” Stanley, Betty Cantor-Jackson, Kidd Candelario, Dan Healy, and John Cutler. David Glasser and Jeffrey Norman restored and mastered the performances, with select ones using Plangent Processes tape restoration and speed correction for optimal sound quality.

It's all housed in a custom keepsake box inspired by the experience of traveling from city to city to see the Dead at legendary venues across America. Inside, a beautifully detailed tour guide features liner notes by Jesse Jarnow (author and co-host of the Good Ol’ Grateful Deadcast) and a producer’s note from Lemieux, an essay by the Owsley Stanley Foundation, and more. The set is richly illustrated with photos, including many taken at the shows featured in the collection.

Due May 30th, this one is limited to 6,000 individually numbered copies and exclusive to Dead.net. We invite you to take this not-so-little piece of the road home.

FWIW, the store appears to be working on my iPhone and MacBook using Safari. It does not work using Chrome on my MacBook. I do not have Chrome on my iPhone, so I can’t test it there.
I’ll boot up my work laptop and try there and report back.

Edit: On my Windows (work), laptop the store appears to be working using Chrome, Edge and Firefox browsers. YMMV.

It had never occurred to me that cds/box sets weren't selling out so quickly because scaplers no longer bought them. Good news for punters - but maybe not as good for deadnet? I guess if you are selling something it is more important that people buy the object than what they do with it after they have done so.

Thanks for that info - maybe there's a chance I can score a DaP1 or FW69 at a reasonable price, still holding out for a brownbag rerelease of those titles though I have them both digitally and on vinyl...

I'll continue to subscribe to DaP with the earlybird special every fall - $25 a show - no brainer...

Hi Marye - I go to the store from my PC - have no idee what it uses, be it CHROME or something, but for the 2 day in a row it (the store) is all black (or rather white..) - I need to order BfA ... BW from Copenhagen

Chrome, no go from my PC.
Edge, seems to be working.
I was able to order early yesterday with no problem using Chrome, but later in the day the Store went all white screen.
I've PM'ed Marye with this info.
Cheers

EDIT - My DaP 55 shipping notice (from yesterday) has a button for View Order which of course also leads you to the blank white screen. Not tracking yet by the way, just "label created".

From tax act dot com:

For tax year 2024, eBay and other online payment platforms are only required to report transactions to the IRS once you hit an annual threshold of $5,000 in gross payments with no transaction minimum. Prior to 2024, the threshold was $20,000 and at least 200 transactions.

This change is part of a phase-in process by the IRS to eventually implement the $600 threshold originally brought about by the American Rescue Plan.

2025 and 2026 Form 1099-K thresholds

Starting in 2025, the threshold will lower again to $2,500.

In 2026 the threshold will be $600 unless the IRS makes more changes

So, scalpers will have to pay tax.

There are people who stopped subscribing and just go ala carte, but the loss of scalpers is probably the biggest reason that releases sell slower than before the tax change.

For those of you still having issues with the Store page, try clearing your browser history. I cleared the browser history on my MacBook using Chrome and that fixed the issue.
Marbles? Really?

Edit: UPS is saying I should have Dave's 55 by Saturday.

If you do need some replacement marbles you’ll have to hurry since there are only 250 sets available.
My copy of DaP #55 has apparently arrived at Heathrow customs this morning, at least it’s in the right country.

EDIT: Yes, clearing the cache on my iPad has worked. Thanks for the suggestion.

Usually when I need to clear it some of the features just aren't there like the search field, but this time that was not the case.
Yes, it did work but...
There is still no account sign in.
Still no purchase history.
Still no order status.
But these features have been gone for a while now?
A Fleetwood Mac song comes to mind. Oh Well!
Two lines in particular! (can you guess?)

My copy of Dave's 55 has just landed in København when I had expected that it would change planes in Köln as usual. As long as it finally ends up at my house I'm not bothered.

Still working my way through this. I notice that disc 27 will not play track 1 on my cd player. I put it into my Blu-ray player and it played perfectly. Life has it’s little surprises.

Yes, I saw that. Might check it out.

I did receive an Email that they still had some tickets available.

General Admin tickets: $635
VIP: $1,725
Golden Road VIP: $6,346

Man, things have sure changed since I was seeing the Dead in the mid to late 80s.

Seems kind of high to me, but God bless them if they can find people willing to fork over this kind of cash.

Would love to see them, but on Nugs might be the best option for me.

FUCK. THAT.

Do what you want, but that is beyond "ahh...no, bro." I love you guys, but you surviving members of the band don't need the money that bad. Sheesh.

this world gets fuckter every day. I won't give details, but I witnessed something very traumatic on the way to work today that cemented my cynical attitude. Then I see shit about $650 - $6000+ tickets.

I'm ready to check out of this realm.

Way back in the distant past, more specifically from 1970 onwards, I would regularly go to see bands. Often they would be top bands, sometimes they would be less successful but still well known. Almost always there would be a support band. Ticket prices were easily affordable for me as a teenager. The audience consisted almost exclusively of teenagers or people in their twenties. Looking at the current absurd ticket prices, I have to ask who can afford them? Surely not the same demographic as 50-55 years ago so who exactly makes up the audience these days? Who can afford such ticket prices? I'm pretty sure they can't go to a gig every week like I used to. Now that I'm old and have done alright I could afford to go to a gig like that once a year, but I wouldn't on principle. I know it's pointless to expect bands or promoters to justify their ticket prices but I have a strong suspicion they couldn't. I still try to live by the principles I grew up with back then. Obviously not everybody does that. I am not about to reward them.

....dont forget to bring your marble bag!
Ticket prices haven't been the same since The Eagles When Hell Feezes Over reunion tour. Promoter thought "I wonder if people will pay these prices."
They did. Thank you for attending my TED talk.

These are the same people that complain the economy sucks!

No rush, the ETR Box is keeping me busy.

BFA 50th and a new JGB in the near future, then DaP 56 followed by the 2026 subscription announcement.
Things are looking good in Dead Land.
(Still haven’t given the new DP4 vinyl a spin).

Think I will do the D&C Nugs stream.

38 years ago I was up in Oakland to see Bob Dylan play with the Grateful Dead, and it was a fantastic show! The Dead played one long set before Dylan came out and they were rocking! Just to see Garcia play pedal steel was worth the price of admission.

I have the ticket here for when I saw Black Sabbath at Manchester Hardrock 3/11/73 - £1.25. The Hardrock was split down the middle, seats on the left ,"festival seating", aka sitting on the floor on the right. I had a seat, so it would have been cheaper sitting on the floor. Having long legs, festival seating was never something I successfully mastered. My knees always seemed to be up by my ears.

But I digress - The Stones at Belle Vue Manchester 9/12/73 was only £1.65. I can remember when I saw Gong around the same time it cost the princely sum of 0.40p.

January 16, 1971 saw me and my friends at the South Parade Pier in sunny Southsea. We were there to see Dada with Robert Palmer, Yes, who were promoting The Yes Album that would be released the following month, and topping the bill were Iron Butterfly who were joined by members of Yes for a jam at the end of their set. It was a great gig and a great evening, all for the princely sum of £0.60. Those were the daze.

Curiously, although it only cost £1.65 to see The Stones in 1973, it cost £9.50 to see them in Leeds in 1982. The latter show was outdoors, but it was only going from early afternoon to about 10.30pm. I would have though The Stones popularity would have dropped significantly between those two dates, but maybe it hadn't as a live draw. They did have a hit single -"Start Me Up" round about '82.

One of the loudest gigs I ever heard was when I saw Black Sabbath at Union House, the Portsmouth Polytechnic students union building on May 2, 1970. It was in support of their recently released first album. They were so loud and the cavernous ex-Territorial Army drill hall amplified the sound so much that residents living miles away complained en masse about the noise. After that, the City Council banned all gigs at Union House until the building could be soundproofed. I don't think that ever happened. My ears were ringing for days afterwards. It was a truly memorable event, my introduction to live heavy music. The name "heavy metal" came some years later.

So cool! And with a sealed box the seller wouldn't even know about that Miracle/6000!! Would love to know the backstory on how this was distributed.

Went on to the 7/11/81 Alpine Set II partial from ETR and then tracked down the rest of Set II - Stella Blue > Miracle > Going Down the Road > Saturday Night. E: Brokedown. Only circulates as an audience - listened to the recent CM remaster which uses an audience source after Other One. A solid pull of a hot show. Stella sounded awesome.

8/23/80 is a fine show - of course the first at Alpine which quickly became a classic summer shed in the Midwest. Slightly on the short side - they had a show the next night in Grand Rapids so maybe thinking a bit of travel time. Like Alpine until ETR, no circulating SBD of GR but I seem to remember a very nice audience pull being available and its a great show. Alpine was right on the heels of three hot nights at the Uptown (friend there, I missed.) Long thought that the first night of that run should be released but the circulating SBD is sorta lousy so who knows. And of course that summer '80 tour started out with the legendary Mississippi River Festival show on 8/16. From the reviews, show got hit by a real frog choker rain Set II and was very much electric. No SBD for that either - would love to hear that if it survived the deluge.
    -
Edit - been a long while since I've posted on the ETR thread and I want to say I really have enjoyed this box!

    Yesterday's ETR Listen

The Alpine Valley 8-23-80 (BC's 4th show he said) was a really good show. Solid most of the way through but maybe not amazing? Then wham, that ending series of songs just kept getting more supercharged. Must have left you guys smiling walking out BC.
But I'm here to rave about Hampton 5-1-81. Yes, I was under the influence by then late yesterday but I was completely taken aback by Jerry's wicked speed and accuracy. We all know he got faster as he went along but by the 90s there just wasn't as much in those runs as there used to be. But here in '81 he has it all. Every riff in the book on that Promised Land (GOAT? Certainly top 10), and the Uncle and Big River blew me away. It isn't just the speed and accuracy but all those mini fills and chords just cascading endlessly. I don't think I realized he had that in '81. This is why we all check out every show we can, regardless of era. You just never know when something like that will appear. Man he was on!
