When the ride begins in '65 at a pizza parlor in the South Bay under another moniker, who would have imagined? When "Who Are You? Where Are You? How Are You?" became "Won't you come with me?" and, ultimately, "Where does the time go?," who would have thought? 60 years on, we're celebrating the Grateful Dead's Diamond Era. Here we go back to the beginning, to the original "Follow," and uncover the wonders of getting on the bus all over again.
ENJOYING THE RIDE is a sweeping 60-CD collection that maps an epic cross-country road trip along the “Heady Highway” with stops at storied venues where the music, the moment, and the magic of the Dead reliably converged. Spanning 25 years of legendary live performances, this expansive compendium spotlights defining shows from 1969 to 1994 at 20 venues that consistently inspired the band to new heights.
With the exception of a few tracks from earlier releases, virtually all of the music on ENJOYING THE RIDE is previously unreleased, with more than 450 tracks and over 60 hours of music. Of the 20 shows in the collection, 17 are presented in full, with some featuring additional material from the same venue. The remaining three — Fillmore West, Fillmore East, and Boston Music Hall — are curated from multiple performances at each venue, capturing key moments on those legendary stages.
These performances were originally recorded by Owsley “Bear” Stanley, Betty Cantor-Jackson, Kidd Candelario, Dan Healy, and John Cutler. David Glasser and Jeffrey Norman restored and mastered the performances, with select ones using Plangent Processes tape restoration and speed correction for optimal sound quality.
It's all housed in a custom keepsake box inspired by the experience of traveling from city to city to see the Dead at legendary venues across America. Inside, a beautifully detailed tour guide features liner notes by Jesse Jarnow (author and co-host of the Good Ol’ Grateful Deadcast) and a producer’s note from Lemieux, an essay by the Owsley Stanley Foundation, and more. The set is richly illustrated with photos, including many taken at the shows featured in the collection.
Due May 30th, this one is limited to 6,000 individually numbered copies and exclusive to Dead.net. We invite you to take this not-so-little piece of the road home.

81 Shows
Yes, Strat. Really dig the Hartford show and the Hampton show.
Just finishing up my first listen of the 85 Oakland show and partial show. Great stuff. So unique with Big Boy Pete opener, Walking the Dog closer. Love that She Belongs to me.
Didn't enjoy the 83 Frost Show. Let's just say I expected more.

Dr. Demento is signing off this October....
....after 55 years. I know there are some fans of him here.
Boston Music Hall, Boston, MA (9/15/72)
Picked the box up for the '79 onward shows so now finally getting around to this one. Sounds fabulous once it evens out a few songs in. Thank you, Bear!
Still on the first set but from Black Throated Wind, heard something I never heard before. How the song has a lyrical shift in perspective half way through. From character to something a little more omniscient, and then back to character again. This verse being the one:
Now what's to be found, racing around
You carry your pain wherever you go
Oh, full of the blues trying to lose
You ain't gonna learn what you don't want to know
True words. Been there, done that, and so it goes.
MUATM
Has anyone gone or is going? They’ve added some showings here on the south shores of Lake Erie. I’m going to the matinee Saturday.
And, no, I didn’t get the postcard.
Blues From The Rainforest....
....the latest in my last five. The priors were Tears For Fears - The Tipping Point (seeing them in October btw), KGATLW- I'm In Your Mind Fuzz, Tears For Fears - Elemental, KGATLW - Butterfly 3000.
I have phases, and they have been known to turn on a dime.

Anniversary show 8/15/81. Portland Oregon
44 years ago I hitch hiked up to Portland from the Bay Area for a wild weekend with the Good old Grateful Dead. What wild trip. Fun times.
Jello Biafra sighting at FOV....

Hey RHINO/WMG

60th Anniversary POSTCARD

and resolve this issue
for your PAYING CUSTOMERS
Whining about a worthless postcard
Seriously?
And some people complained about there not being a DaP 55 page. Yet there is one now but few people are using it.
How about something to be happy about, such as the email yesterday about 2 more JGB releases coming this fall.
Edit:
Those being Warfield vinyl.
Dennis, I need to borrow your wife’s credit card.
Movie…
…was great, as always! That Morning Dew is a face melter. If you’re still going, don’t leave after the credits. There’s a bonus China>Rider.
Postcard
finally checked my box,,, no card.
Why they call them "post" cards, they always come after the vacation.
Anniversary show 8/16/91 Shoreline
34 years ago I was out at Shoreline for a knockout show with the Good old Grateful Dead. We had seats in row 4. The Dead played Dark Star into Promised land to end set 1. This show would make a great release.
Gizz brought a 14 year old up to the stage....
....he had a sign that said, "I want to play Superbug on Stu's guitar."
And he nailed it! Legend.
Anniversary show 8/16/81 Eugene Oregon
44 years ago I was up at MacArthur Court for a Sunday night show with the Good old Grateful Dead. An Evening with the Grateful Dead and LSD, that is what the marquee read on MacArthur Court that morning, it was later taken down. Ken kesey and his Prankster friends were onstage with the Thunder Machine. Wild night. A bunch of fireworks after the show in the graveyard across the street from MacArthur Court. Crazy fun times!
SUPERBUG
IN MY BLOOD
I still dig that "metal" KGLW album
Postcard / JGB
Icecrmcnkd completely agree and speaking about JGB, for some reason they don't seem to get much love on these threads with almost never a reply to any posts. I just got the Warfield release and listened to the Feb 28th show. Excellent! There are some of the "same olds" which gets mentions in reviews but this is very fresh. I've always felt that Jerry was more engaged with JGB than he was with the Dead at this point in his life. The lineup is top notch and again it has a very fresh sound and take on the songs. Do yourself a favor and get the Warfield release. It's really good!
Billy
I've probably said it before, but thanks for your anniversary posts. I love the tour stories!
Random news tidbits
The stuntman who is on fire on the cover of Wish You Were Here passed away at age 88.
These days the fire would just be added digitally to the photo.
New JGB
Strangely, Amazon in the UK say that the Warfield album is released on 29th August. And I can expect to see it on 4th September. I do enjoy the JGB releases.
It goes to show you never can tell.
The new JGB at the Warfield has recently appeared on German Amazon for €85.54 plus shipping.
Fortunately I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon.com for €48.21 including transatlantic shipping and import taxes.
JGB at the Warfield
Did the same, €47.01
ETA Aug. 22nd
edit:
Had the chance to see Jerry and Band at the Warfield on Feb. 6, 1988.
JGB vinyl....
....trigger pulled.
Field Of Vision. Day 3....
....is drag night. Glorious.
They give zero fucks.
That was an outstanding nine hours of free KG....
....time well spent.
JGB
I bought the day it was announced and low and behold I had a ship notice days before release and on release day the eagle landed. No fuss no muss. Think the dead should move on to round records. Anyway I was at these three and man is it awesome to have them now. Miss JGB Mucho!
8/18/70 Fillmore West
This would sure make a great release, maybe its in the banana box.
Banana Boxes - We Need More 1968
I'm not sure where they are, but we need to build a tunnel under and into that storage room also and release some of these older shows.
I've been on doing the 60th box in reverse order because, well, I like to save the best for last. But some of the newer shows have been exciting to listen to, so I'm on an 80's kick at the moment. But in my heart of hearts it's 68 to 74 that makes my jaw drop and can temporarily make me unable to speak. I did take a sneak peek into the 69 Fillmore West material and I love it.
Release more 1968 or in the immortal words of Mr. Burns, "Smithers, release the hounds"
Give us the raw stuff, Dave & Co.
Please
66 through 74
And any additional 65 that might exist
To echo Jim in MD: go bananas!
More Jerry, obviously
I've always loved those Warfield shows! So cool!
I remember right after "So What" was released in the early 90s, David Grisman mentioned they had hours of many other "private jams". Surprisingly those "So What Sessions" arent represented in the new Bare Bones set either. But I wish I could remember his exact words. One can only wonder what's out there. And theres no pizza guy to do our bidding this time. ;)
And Legion of Mary is pure magic. We've barely scratched the surface. We already get those fine GD box sets, released yearly. But I'd love to see a Garcia box set so big that the mailman complains someday also. Be well, all
JGB at the Warfield Album Scans
Hey Kids! Does anyone have the scans to the individual albums? Shore would be nice!
I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.
I have no scans stillwaters....
....however, Molly Tuttle released a new record! Check it out.
Maryland Dead Shirts
Wow! These look cool for sure, I bet Jim in MD got one or at least I hope he did!
Yeah these look damn good, just like artwork of past Dave's releases from MD the shirts got the crabs, terrapins and birds.
I can hardly remember the last few released {FL?} for they're not showing them on the United States of Dead page. The one page from the web store that has the shirts with a few sizes left as well as past states designs.
Show all the shirts!
MD Shirts
That's a great one! Almost up there with Kansas. Still kicking myself for not picking that one up. Was perfect.
MD Shirt
Alas, they are sold out. Oh well..
On a related note, I do wish they would use a heavier cotton fabric. The last few I bought from here were pretty whimpy and thin which scared me away from plopping 45 beans plus shipping on a t shirt or I probably would have pulled the trigger. but hey, they sold out in one day. They seem to be looking for limited production runs to guarantee a quick sell out, which makes sense for them I guess. I probably would have pulled the trigger if they still had inventory.
Some people out there are making nice steelie t's with the state flag (Calvert and Cross Coat of Arms) and crab combinations. Love the Raven and Crab references though..
JGB Warfield scans
I made some with my phone, they are ok, and I put them up on the JGB/Reddit. They are in the booklet post after the booklet. Don't let the crappy booklet photos scare you, the album scans are better. I use them with poweramp and they work pretty good. Copperdomebodhi has a hi res album cover there also.
Anniversary show 8/21/83. Frost Ampitheatre
42 years ago I was up in Palo Alto at the Frost Amphitheatre for a fantastic day with the Good old Grateful Dead. They kicked off the show with Cassidy and Dire Wolf, what a start to a knockout show by the Dead. Fun Times!
MD Shirt
I have found the t-shirts available on the GD site to be of rather poor quality. As noted, they're very thin. Overall, I find the quality of products on the GD store to be little interest to me these days. They used to have much better offerings.
Dead net store shirts....
....hit or miss for sure.
My Ithica '77 shirt from GSTL is holding strong. The one from the PNW box as well, but shrunk a bit. They are both in pretty constant rotation.
The others faded pretty quick. Wash them on gentle cycle.
I didn't get the Nevada shirt because it looked lame.
Also, Anything Records LLC is releasing a vinyl boot box of Gizz's Field Of Vision Festival. $175 for 12 records. Limited to 500, for those that may be interested.
Dead Net Shirts
The PNW shirt is, I think, one of the last good ones and it was pretty good quality. I bought one last year (a stealie with stars or something) from Dead Net that was so thin and flimsy and definitely not as good looking as was shown in the image on the webpage. With the exception of music, I'm done buying any merchandise from Dead.Net. I really only care about the music. I don't care about t-shirts much anymore, marbles, beach towels, shot glasses or anything else. YMMV.
United States of Dead Shirts
I can attest these are good weighted superior fabric! At least the Oregon one was, I got one. Crazy to fathom how I scored the shirt. I had been in a habit of checking posts daily on the website at the time and was aware of the shirts then too. They had maybe a little more than a handful released but less than a dozen at the time and I just so happened to see my state on some odd weekday released, Thursday it was maybe. By the end of the day it was sold out, they should've probably released more than 144. Even 300 is a little light, I thought they had raised the numbers. Still not enough though! They should rerelease the set again when they get to the end. I thought Washington and Idaho were pretty cool, but the Bear Sasquatch for Oregon was right on. They're all pretty cool but anyways,...
Still Enjoying the Ride!
Shirts limited to 144
144 is a gross.
Apparently more than just bottle rockets come as a gross.
BFA - wish they released a foil poster and album cover T-Shirt
I ordered the long sleeve T for the Blues For Allah 50th. The other shirts did not do it for me. I would've loved a 50th TShirt of the album cover and speaking of that cover, I bet it would look awesome if they did a foil rendition of it with the inside the arch accents like the green, the stars, the sunglasses and jewelry were all foil. I love my foil D&C 8/2/24 Sphere poster with Uncle Sam on his bike.
